Tom Smith commits to the Vols

The 2 times on here have him around 4.5 and 4.8. Average that to a 4.65. Now factor in that top-flight SEC DBs run around a 4.4. Now what is it? A sub-5 second window?

Oh, and now you add the factor that he's a RB. He's starting his sprint 20 yards before the DB starts his.

Seriously? Aren't DB's supposed to be faster than RB's? That is why they are in the secondary. I don't even know what you are trying to say with this.

I am VERY excited with this get.

It's not everyday you get a guy who can run for 1,670 yards and 27 TDs in 6A FL.

Very good get.

I agree, LV. This cat is my fav. Commit up to this point. Dude can definently tote the rock with power, and will run through arm tackles.

While stars and hype matter, it really boils down to how the kid plays football. I dont care if he's 3 star or 5 star. I dont care if he runs a 4.4 or a 4.7. Kid looks like a legit, durable football player to me playing against arguably the best competition in the nation.

That's great and all, but it only works when you have an entire month and change to prepare. Check some of Wisconsin's losses in each of those years. And it's not just that they coach up athletes. Yeah, they'll get a Ron Dayne here, or a PJ Hill there, but it's because their OL are so massive. It's easier to find diamonds in the rough up there, because nobody is looking for them in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Iowa. That's fertile ground for OL. Always has been, always will be. But nobody looks there, because the HS football isn't "sexy". Look, not only at Wisconsin, but Iowa, too. They take guys that fit a philosophy, not a star quota. They're big nasties. Rugged guys. It's a different world, and for one game they can show out, but for the balance of an entire season, I don't think that style, that philosophy is a winning one.

Yeah the Big 10 schools go after those All-American wrestlers in Iowa and Wisconsin, those guys are nasty off the ball...
