Hearing that 1180 AM in Knoxville believes that their programming is not being helped by Tony Basilio and that they are dropping his radio show.

I am not a huge fan of his show, but have read his blog on occasion. He is definitely a Vols fan and his show covers the Vols in a way that nobody else in the Tennessee market does.

I wish him well.

When will his final show be?

I went on a trip to the NCAA tourney with Basilio the first year Pearl was our coach, and the guy is pure entertainment. We had to bare through the Duke game before our game, and Tony B was in George Washingtons college section cheering against them with a GW foam hat on while wearing all UT gear. I have to admit I chuckled a lil.

I always thought Tony B was an ass clown of the highest order. I understand that just talking about sports and and having callers is "boring" entertainment but he made Paul Finebaum look like Paul Harvey.

If you want to have the newspaper read to you by an LSU fan, go with Hyams. If you want to be entertained by a true Vol fan, listen to Basilio.

July 13th.

Thanks. Tony seems like he could be high maintenance behind the scenes, whether because of him or the side effects of the circus that is his show. I'm sure he'll find another way to broadcast, but he's never really tried to toe the company line enough to be as well-known and credible as he could be.

Best of luck to him nonetheless.

Enjoy his show...most of the time...guy loves basketball more than the other hosts on TSR and his relentless BUY OUT THE OREGON GAME...WE'RE GOING TO GET KILLED kick got old five minutes after he started it....but I relate to him and I like his interaction with callers so in all I think Jaybay is effing up royally on this one...I'll keep listening though

He'll be around. He may go internet only, but he was building a studio in his house so I'm fairly confident he will find a way.

Maybe he can shoot doc, jeff, and heather out of the saddle and replace that joke of a show on the Sports Animal.

Good move by 1180. Maybe we will get someone who knows something about sports in that mid-day time slot. Ainge and Swain are fantastic.

I enjoy Ainge and Swain because know they are knowledgeable and talk a lot of UT football. Basilio is over the top and yaps about nothing important. If I want to listen to UT sports talk between noon and 1, I had just as soon watch cartoons than listen to Basilio or that politically correct Will West. Listening to Hyams and "Dr. Jerry Punch" are a big waste of time.

Treece is not bad either. Better him than listen to Will West call his listeners and their families sexist and homophobes when they disagree with him and his PC views.

You are kidding right? I guess it is good radio if you want to hear ex-Vols pat themselves on the back for hours at a time

Basilio has gotten rather nutty in recent years, but I still listen to him, because the guy has a passion for what he talks about and it shows.

We need more UT fans on the radio in this town. The Sports Animal is an utter joke. It's a bunch of guys who couldn't care less about UT and can't wait for football or basketball season to end so they can talk about national topics and build their audition reel. It amazes me that people put up with it. No other major college town has its main radio station filled with non-fans like we do here.

TSR is a welcome alternative, and Tony was a major part of that. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes to make them part ways, but I'll certainly miss him.
