Tony Jones says UT to "shock the world"

I gotta say, I don't know what is going on this weekend. Last night I was kicking it with Herky, and tonight I ran into Tony Jones. There was a LOT said throughout the course of the evening, but considering where we are right now with the 'AA and the basketball program, I am going to keep it on the positive rather than being irresponsible (i.e. see posts re LPE and where that got us with hostess-gate).

A little bit after snapping a pic with Coach Jones, I leaned over to my good friend with me at the bar and told him that I thought Harris and Hopson were headed to the NBA this season. My friend disagreed, so I asked, "Tony, you think Harris and Hopson are headed to the NBA after this season?" Coach Jones replied that they "were both going in the first round" and that it was going to be great for our program. And that was AWESOME, nothing like the opinion of the associate head coach to settle a dispute with your bro :)

But backtracking a little bit, before Coach Jones was gracious enough to snap a picture with myself and my friend, he dropped a bomb about the upcoming SEC tourney. Coach Jones said that once we get in, we weren't losing a game. With much bravado and a stern confidence in his voice, Coach Jones looked me in the eye and said that UT was going to "SHOCK THE WORLD." When he said it, I got chills (and permission to quote him).

GO BIG ORANGE!

My favorite thing is people who can remain optimistic in the most difficult times and who in the face of adversity shine forth and remain at the task and keep the goal before them... the race is won by persistence and attitude

As for me WAY TO GO TONY

My least favorite is when people who claim to be fans are negative about their team and can’t say anything positive… JMHO

How about a dose of negativity everyone?

No kidding. I thought it was cool that the coach stepped up and called an SEC tournament championship. This team has the talent to do it. We'll see if Tony or the negavols are right about the tourney soon enough.

Maybe he meant that we would shock the world by getting back to back wins and beating KY.

Haha would it really be a shock if we won the SECT? Its not like we play in the Big East.

Charlotte disagrees. As does Oakland. Mississippi State. Georgia. Florida.

Perhaps you mean final four of local JV squads.

And Pitt, villanova and vcu disagree with you. What's your point? The obligatory "realist" crowd is out today. Tennessee can go to a final four but at the same time lose in the first to second round. I bet the all knowing "realists" didn't think we would make the run we did last year.

I bet you didn't see us being a bubble team in December. What's your point?

lets see they are going to shock the world , he could of meant that Tn will not get the death penalty.Hopson and Harris going in the first round ?Maybe he meant they were buying his first round of wine.
I will be shocked if Tn makes it out of the first round of the NCAA tourney and I think Harris and Hopson needs another year in college.

I can't see them going in the first round and they definitely need more experience if you ask me which would only make them more valuable if and when they get drafted.

Its bittersweet because I'd love to see some Vols in the NBA, but at the same time, we really could use them in TBA as well.

That is a fair question, and one I would be glad to answer. In the entirety of the time that he was there, he had a grand total of one glass of red wine. I'm glad you asked, wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea.

Hmmm

Hope he's right! It would shock the world if he was back next year, I don't think many would be shocked if UT won conference tourney. UT has shown they can beat almost anyone. Elite 8 would shock the world. Haha. Thanks for posting!

Once they get in? Everyone gets in the SEC tourney. Huh?

That crap is so vastly overplayed. You want to shock me? Show a semblance of a gameplan and make adjustments on the fly.

That'd shock the hell out of me. Talk is cheap.

We might survive the Big east. Beat Nova and Pitt and competitive on UCONNs co-home court. not to mention winning the 2 big games of the preseason NIT in Madison square Garden where the Big East tourney will be.

Somehow I can't even imagine Tony Jones stating anything that makes a lick of sense.

Just because we have potential to lose to terrible teams doesn't mean we don't have potential to beat really good teams.

Harris......needs 2 more seasons minimum. Hopson....needs another season to show he can be consistent in all phases of the game....IMO.
