Tony Jones says UT to "shock the world"

Just because we have potential to lose to terrible teams doesn't mean we don't have potential to beat really good teams.

My comment was toward HMam's statement that Tennessee had Final Four talent and coaching.

Not that they aren't terrible. Nor that they couldn't unexpectedly beat someone on any give day.

But all of those who'd like to lay some money on Tennessee's chances to make the Final Four - say so.

If not, then admit you're a nega-vol who hates BP because he's Jewish and we can all move on.

And Pitt, villanova and vcu disagree with you. What's your point? The obligatory "realist" crowd is out today. Tennessee can go to a final four but at the same time lose in the first to second round. I bet the all knowing "realists" didn't think we would make the run we did last year.

What would you like to wager on Tennessee's chances to make it to another Elite 8 this year?

Name it - or quit with claiming that you are a true fan.

it won't shock me if the Vols are left out of the dance.

it won't shock me if they are in the Final Four.

this team has talent. we SPANKED pitt and soundly beat nova. i don't buy in to the lack of talent theory. especially with hopson transforming into the man beast we have always wanted him to be.

Hope he's right! It would shock the world if he was back next year, I don't think many would be shocked if UT won conference tourney. UT has shown they can beat almost anyone. Elite 8 would shock the world. Haha. Thanks for posting!

shocking the world would be NCAA Champions!!!:loco:

Really, this team has obvious final four talent and coaching.

Charlotte disagrees. As does Oakland. Mississippi State. Georgia. Florida.

Perhaps you mean final four of local JV squads.

Oh, you're talking about that facetious post in response to another dude throwing out the negativity card.

Ah, I missed the coaching bit. Also was skimming and didn't realize the post was facetious. I do think we have talent to be a Final Four team if our talent would play to their potential. When Goins, Williams, and Tatum actually decide to join Hops and Harris, we have a deep threat, a good perimeter defender, and a strong rebounder who will score in double figures. The problem is that we rarely have all three come to play. And when they don't, we're on the verge of being an NIT team. But the inconsistency is on the coaching in no small part.

I've seen where Wes Rucker said a NBA scout told him Harris could be a mid first rounder. Hopson and Harris are most likely playing their last home game as vols on Sunday.

I think the OP must have gotten Tony's comments transposed. When he said "first round" he wasn't talking about the draft, he was talking about how much longer this season was gonna last.

Along this line......

Chuck Cavalaris(sp) says rumors are that Coach Pearl may announce he is either stepping down or a leave of absence after the KY game today.

Maybe that's what TJ was referring to ???

It would shock the world if Pearl would stop sucking against Kentucky.

I gotta say, I don't know what is going on this weekend. Last night I was kicking it with Herky, and tonight I ran into Tony Jones. There was a LOT said throughout the course of the evening, but considering where we are right now with the 'AA and the basketball program, I am going to keep it on the positive rather than being irresponsible (i.e. see posts re LPE and where that got us with hostess-gate).

A little bit after snapping a pic with Coach Jones, I leaned over to my good friend with me at the bar and told him that I thought Harris and Hopson were headed to the NBA this season. My friend disagreed, so I asked, "Tony, you think Harris and Hopson are headed to the NBA after this season?" Coach Jones replied that they "were both going in the first round" and that it was going to be great for our program. And that was AWESOME, nothing like the opinion of the associate head coach to settle a dispute with your bro :)

But backtracking a little bit, before Coach Jones was gracious enough to snap a picture with myself and my friend, he dropped a bomb about the upcoming SEC tourney. Coach Jones said that once we get in, we weren't losing a game. With much bravado and a stern confidence in his voice, Coach Jones looked me in the eye and said that UT was going to "SHOCK THE WORLD." When he said it, I got chills (and permission to quote him).

GO BIG ORANGE!

would have been a start, winning at home today

I guess he meant shock the world by losing to the worst road team in the conference.
