Id never thought Texas at the top.

The band ordeal still has me puzzled? Mike H says because of the X B-ball coach etc. I realize with the new work going to be done to Neyland was factored in, along with the expansion of the Neyland/ Thompson sports center. But 4 million of that was donated, and not the UT money.

The Longhorns sell far more merchandise than any other college in the country, as far as I know. You not only see the logo around Austin and the rest of Texas but everywhere in the country.

I struck up a convo with a guy in Hard Rock Vegas 2 years ago.

I was in my wear and tear UT good luck hat, When he sat down beside me at the bar, I noticed he to was in a faded orange with a white power T cap. He sat for a bit enjoying his drink, then leaned over said im "::.,/!#. I said cool etc.

We chatted abit about our first time to Vegas, Then i said wow' its too cool to meet another VOL fan in Sin City. He looked over at me like he wanted to choke me!

He was way beyond me drink wise so i asked hey you cool?
He replied with, TN Vols? I said yeah who else is there? He said Texas and did you know...................I still have his hat, his wife and about 10 others from his church group (trip) i later found out as they explained, how sorry they was, carried him out. Them Horns fans are serious, and the battle of Orange and power T belongs to them....Isnt there still a argument over this?

I sure hope so! There is only 1 power T and one orange no matter the wear and tear......TENNESSEE

I dunno, I think the Vols should line up a game or two agains the Horns. It seems to me that Texas has the official national right to the name "UT". As far as I've seen, whenever anybody sees an orange T or sees "UT" Texas is almost always thought of before Tennessee.

Not only that, but Texas more all time wins, a better all-time winning percentage and has won two of the three Tennessee vs. Texas matchups.

My suggestion is to line up a game against the horns. Have it be for rights to the Power T, which Texas seems to be more nationally-recognized for. Have it be for the rights to be known as THE "UT". Most of all, for respect since a lot of you folks seem to have a big chip on your shoulder when it comes to Texas football.

It came very close this year......

Pending bowl picks etc, We could have had the Horns as Mich did or the Aggies. Dont know how close it could have been? I dont have a Texas chip' Just think you enjoy poke'n at me.

For that matter will also assume your not a VOL fan. You can MOD all you like. But No one else seems to adore the other team better than yourself.

I ain't adoring one better than the other in this case. Consider it a fresh view. I've come to like Vols football very much this last year, and I consider myself a big fan of the program. But I was also raised watching Texas football. Got a special place in my heart for them.

But when it comes right down to it, I always try and take an objective look at the grand scheme of things without regard to who I may or may not be a fan of. I say let the teams play for use of "UT", the Power T and bragging rights. It's only fair. And it would be a hell of a game.

TN owns Texas. Texas would not even exist w/o TN. We gave them Sam Houston and Davy Crockett and besides that thier was a UT in TN long before thier was a UT in Texas. I love Texas because it was settled by Tennesseans and if any body has the right to wear our UT it would be our sister state. They just have to remember who thier BIG Brother is. If not they might be UM..the University of Mexico.

Milo, I think you have a fairly slanted view of the TN TX view of the country. You have spent your whole life on the LEFTcoast where it would seem that UT means Texas. I spent 8 years in Dallas and let me tell you it was very difficult to convince them that UT meant TN. I have been all over this great country and wore my Power "T" everywhere. Bottom line if you are left of the MS river you would think Texas and if you are on the blessed side of the MS then you think TN. Calling Texas a national team is like calling the PAC 10 the best conference.

By the way, I HATE TEXAS FOOTBALL. They are like Bama, the most obnoxious fans with absolutely no reason. They have not mattered on the national scene in a very long time, if ever, and have been OWNED lately by there hated rival OK. Not only that but how could anyone like a team with a fight song of "I've Been Working on the Railroad"?

I, like many here, have also traveled the entire country. I believe Tennessee would be more recognized everywhere except a couple of Texas' adjoining states, Ok and maybe NM. Another adjoining state,Louisiana, would definitely see it as Tn. I think our tradition and national exposure exceeds that of Texas. I believe this is only my 3rd post here so maybe I shouldn't have gotten into a controversial discussion this early. :)

Yes, I know the song is "Eyes of Texas" which is not really their fight song but their Alma Mater and the official fight song is "Taps" but not the "Taps" as in funeral.

It's never too early to jump on in, welcome :wavey: .

When I wear my T hat out here, everyone knows which UT it is. Very rarely do I ever get asked if it is Texas. I am still amazed how few people understand why we are called the Volunteers and the TN/TX connection. Also, (don't take this the wrong way) most of the people wearing TX gear do not seem to be "native" texans, they come from a little south of Texas.

Milo, is there a team west of the Miss river that you didn't get "raised on" and "respect for their tradition"?? ;)

Are Freak and Milo brothers? Otherwise it's hard to picture a Pac-Ten, Texas fan so "highly ranked" on a Tennessee message board.

And some people wonder why UAB has such a hard time of things competing in the heart of alot of this. :laugh1: I'm surprised Michigan is that low on the list with Tennessee and Michigan always having such huge home crowds.

GV I get a blank on that link.

I'll have to go with ncvol on this one. I can say UT all I want wherever I go (which is exclusively east of the Miss.) and the only question I've ever gotten was "Knoxville, Chatt., or Martin?"

I say turn about is fair play, Take Texass to court and sue them for infringing on The real UT's power T.

As for more wins, I would hope so since they have played football longer
Texass. 4 more years to be exact

Whipper snappers!

There was a University of Tennessee a generation before there was a University of Texas.

Everything they've done is a copy of us. We adopted the orange long before them, played football before them, and we are members of the strongest conference in football for generations, while they played in the SWC.

They're johnny-come-latelys.
