Reggie Johnson has to be in the Top Ten for this school.

And I personally think Gary Carter should be too although he missed his senior year due to grades. Excellent player.

i like Haislip and Slay and Chism but to have any of them listed better than Nix is crazy . I do believe however if Haislip had stayed at UT for senior year and just improved a 1/3 as much as he did after his sophmore season he would have been top 5 or 10 of the draft

Howard Wood was my favorite Vol basketball player as a kid. Very good. Not in the top 10.

Michael Brooks was good too. I assume he's probably spent the last 30 years in a haze of depression, wondering how different his life would have been if the 3 point line had existed when he played.

was it Howard Wood or Gary Carter hit the jumper to beat American university from around the hash mark it was a very long shot well over 30 feet unless im getting my mind is gone

Howard Wood hit a baseline jumper to beat LSU. Gary Carter a half court to beat American.

Were you at the LSU/UT game when they had Chris Jackson and Shaq?

I was there. To this day, Chris Jackson is the greatest college basketball player I've ever seen. He had a crossover move that was deadly and it seemed he could score 50 points any night he wanted. How that LSU team failed to win a NCAA championship is beyond me.

Clarence Swearengen
Carlos Groves
Dyron Nix
Doug Roth
Vegas Davis
Stanley Asumnu
Lang Wiseman
Ian Lockhart
Rashard Lee
Mark Griffin

In no particular order.....

I believe the correct spelling is Carlus Groves. He was an intimidator that didn't back down from anyone. I loved his intensity.

As for Swearengen, he was also one of my favorites. He couldn't shoot worth a dime, but was a relentless defender and lightening quick. A piece of trivia: Clarence was the first male player to score in Thomson Bowling Arena (first player was Dawn Marsh against Texas). Clarence stole an inbounds pass under the basket and sored for a dunk over some defender. I didn't know who he was before that but it made a memorable impression.

My top six players would be Bernard King, Tony White, Dale Ellis, Allan Houston, Chris Loften, Dyron Nix. I also loved Fred Jenkins back in the early 80's.

I'm sorry but I just can't see that list without JuJuan Smith. In my opinion he should be in the top ten easy. GO VOLS!

I loved watching that dude play, not saying he was the best shooter we ever had, but IMO he was the most fearless shooter I have ever seen in orange

The top four in order would be King, Ellis, Grunfeld, and Houston. I'd say you would have to put Tom Boerwinkle in the top five because he was drafted higher in the NBA draft (4th overall pick) than any Vol in history.

Tony White would be next, he accomplished an awful lot with not a lot of help around him. Chris Lofton got more out of his ability than anyone to ever wear the Orange. Reggie Johnson and Howard Wood were warriors and accomplished a lot in the Orange. Jimmy England was a great shooter in the 70s. Chism did a lot of things well and helped his teams win.

1. Bernard King - Best Ever
2. Ernie Grunfeld - Second Best
3. Lofton - Money!
4. Michael Brooks - As good as Lofton, no 3's back then
5. Jimmy England - No 3's, but could hit a mile away
6. McRae - Gonna go down as one of the best
7. Tony White - Not very tall, but no one could stop him when he got hot
8. Reggie Johnson - Only one I know that could hit over 60% consistently
9. Bert Bertelkamp - unheralded, but could just play basketball
10. Gary Carter - see number 9
11. JaJuan Smith, Dane Bradshaw, Johnny Darden (tie)

There are two types of posters in this thread:

1. The people answering the question seriously

2. Older posters trying to come up with the oldest and most obscure lineup possible

3. People answering the question with their tongue in their cheek.

Some of these lists are down right hilarious. Making me lol.:eek:lol:

But seriously, any list without King is disqualified.

Truth. Anyone who did not get to see King play in person when he was here cannot understand how much of a dominant force he was when he was here. IMHO Tennessee has yet to have a player that was the dominating force King was while he played in the SEC.

Remember, he scored 42 in his first game ever as a freshman! How do you like that for a coming-out party?! He was a consensus first team All-American his Sophomore and Junior seasons.

King stands alone as the best player to ever wear orange and its not that close, either.

You have a good list, but Tobias Harris should not be on there. He played one season and averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds per game. I understand the talent and that he was only a freshman, but there are many more deserving on the Vols list. Maybe Reggie Johnson, Garry Carter, Jimmy England, Mike Edwards, Tom Boerwinkle, Bill Justice, etc.

Glad someone remembers UT roundball before the three point shot. England, Edwards, Boerwinkle certainly, and Justice would all at least be candidates for the top ten. I would add Mike Jackson. If the three pointer had been around back then, it would have been the Ernie, Bernie, and Mikie show and maybe a national championship.

In support, this is where Jackson appears on the Vols' all time top 25 scoring list relative to teammates Ernie and Bernie:

2. 2249 Ernie Grunfeld, 1973-77
6. 1962 Bernard King, 1974-77
21. 1243 Mike Jackson, 1974-77

Given that the vast majority of Jackson's baskets would be three pointers today, his point total would have been about the same as King.
