One of the better games to be played in K-town was the 1990 game between Vols and Notre Dame. Its an ESPN all-time classic.

So many players - I was there.

Vols -

A Harper
C Pickens
D Carter
T Stevens

Non-vols

"Rocket" Ismail (punt return for TD - 4.25/40 - incredible)
Nose-tackle for ND in 1990 - real nasty guy - forgot his name

It was an exhibition game. I think maybe late 70's. but that's just a guess. It was the most bored I've ever been at a game in Knoxville. The game meant nothing, and I didn't care who won.

I had forgotten about that game when I listed Franco Harris. I guess I saw him more than once, because he was there with Penn State in 1971, and I'm not sure about 1972. We played them in Knox the last game of 71 and the first game of 72.

Franco (see Franco Harris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) was a rookie with the Steelers in '72, so he didn't play in that second UT-PSU game. 'tis amazing that we convinced the Nittany Lions to visit us in back-to-back seasons without it being part of a home-and-away series. As john Ward pointed out, however, the '72 game was the first played under the lights at Neyland, so that was a big selling point back then for ABC.

If you were there for the '71 game, you saw one of the great individual single-game performance by a defensive/special teams player. On "Majors Family Day," Bobby Majors made his family and the Big Orange Nation proud, returning two punts for 82 yards, one for a score, and two kickoffs for 113 yards. See Vols Beat Penn State in Knoxville (1971) - YouTube .

If you were a UT student during that period, you must have taken particular delight in a 38-7 drubbing of Florida in 1970. See Vols Blast Gators 38-7 in 1970 - YouTube .

The Majors exhibition was awesome....Harris is the only player I ever saw that stiffed Armed Majors. It was not a pretty sight and it was textbook.....we still won 41-10 and won next year 28-7 I think.....

That's a good list of Vols. Al Wilson was some player!

I think DeAngelo Williams didn't play vs the Vols...he claimed to be injured for that game.
