A few more recent examples:

1. 2011, Neil fumbling in the wildcat against Kentucky when we were about to score and put the game away.

2. 2012, 80-yd run by Trey Burton to tie (but actually win) the game.

3. 2011, Da'Rick dropping a beautiful TD pass from Worley against USCe.

The missed field goal against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl
The fumble by Stephens in the SEC chmpionship game
Hob-nailed boot play against UGA

Agree....but would say the call against us in the Oklahoma Orange bowl was one of the worse calls....not necessarily worse play

In recent memory, I have never been so frustrated at our special teams as I was when Joe Adams of Arky made all 11 players miss him....twice.

I remember when he got drafted and they showed that highlight about five times. Each of those times I think I sunk further an further into the couch. I think that play caused me a few months of my life when I was watching the game.

How can David Palmers 2pt conversion in 92 not be #1??????? THAT WAS WORST PLAY! #2 Manning`s freshman year drive to the Bama 4 and stalls #3 Cody`s block. All other plays pale in comparison to losing to freaking bammer! GO VOLS!

Not actual plays, but I'd like to nominate Derek Dooley's use of timeouts during his tenure. The one that stands out was the play during the Mizzou game last year where UT stuffed a running play for a loss, but Dooley had called a timeout a split second before the snap. After collecting themselves on the sideline, UT's defense comes back out and gives up a 30-40 yard TD pass on the very next play.

Fulmer's decision not to kick the ball deep after the Travis Stephens TD in the 2001 UGA game. I think we hold on for the win if they don't start that final drive near midfield.

I found an interesting article on bleacher report that I'm sure has been posted here before, but I thought it would be interesting here in such a depressing thread.

Tennessee Football's 10 Most Heartbreaking Losses, 1989-2007 | Bleacher Report

Pretty fair list. I would have the 2006 UF game on there instead of the 2000 UF game. In '06, UT did everything they needed to win the game. If not for that awful hands to the face penalty on the INT return, UT wins that game. In the 2000 game, UT got horrible QB play from Suggs, and even before the Gafney play, UT had squandered several opportunities to end a 90+ yard drive. The Gafney play took place on 2nd down, so even with an incomplete pass, UF possibly scores on 3rd down and if not then there is at least a 99% chance that they hit a FG and send the game into OT. It's not like UT had a surefire win stolen from them as the revisionist history would have us all believe.

The what would have been game winning fg attempt being blocked by Alabama in the dying embers of the game in 1990. This flipped the entire situation in a matter of seconds as the ball ricocheted backwards far enough to set Alabama up into field goal range. They made the kick, and we lost.

If not top 3, that has to be worth at least an honorable mention.

1) The phantom Jabar Gaffney "TD" call by Vandy refereee Alana Matthews that led to UF winning in 2000 was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen in Neyland.
2) Ainge tossing it over his shoulder against LSU. Geeeeezzz.....
3) Too many men on the field against LSU. The first big clue that we hired a bona fide idiot for a coach.

The Memphis State kick-off return in 1996.
The blocked FG by Bama in 1990.
The 4th down play where UF scored on the opening drive in 1996.

No question about it. Ainge throwing the ball over his shoulder was the most embarrassing moment in UT football history that I've seen. I jumped up off the couch and pointed to the TV and said " if they ever put that S.O.B. back in another game I will never watch thrm again". Well, l knew I lied when I said it but that was the worst ever.

What about J T Mapu's roughing the passer foul against Chris Leak in 2006 that wiped off a pick 6?

I would say that special teams debacle against Arkansas two seasons ago. Dude dodged like 30 tackles. Sad Tennessee moment.

The entire second half of the lsu 2001 sec champ game.

Ainge's pick six against lsu in sec champ game

13 men on field against lsu

Using lsu I believe you can chart UTs decline over the past decade
