The changeling baseball down the stairs scene freaked me out. That is an all around great movie.

Can't limit to 5, and I don't think I can put them in any order, but:

Halloween 1~3
The Thing
Christine
The Fog
(basically there was a run where John Carpenter could be considered as good as any director at that time)

Others I enjoy:
It (the original TV mini-series, not the movies, which were okay)
Halloween 6: Producer's Cut
Night of the Living Dead
Friday the 13th 1~7 (I have soft spots for Part 5 and 7)
Ghost Story
Pet Cemetary
The Amityville Horror (scariness was predicated on it being real, which later turned out to be fake)
Sleepaway Camp 1 & 2 (I admit I like 3 too, altho most hated it)
Blair Witch Project (not so much because it was that scary, but mostly because of documentary stuff at the beginning and the backstory mockumentaries on Sy Fy)
Scream (the original)

No particular order:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Friday the 13th
I Spit on Your Grave
Arachnophobia
Creature from the Black Lagoon

We like the old B&Ws with Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi, and Boris Karloff.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

Whether you are being sarcastic or not I don’t know but the A&C universal monster movies were great. Frankenstein is better than the rest but the Mummy is my favorite. Meet the killer and hold that ghost are great too.

No, I’m being serious. I think it’s an absolute gem of a movie. I’d also like to add Young Frankenstein to my list as well. Not scary movies, but really fun movies for Halloween.

Most of the horror canon has been mentioned (although, I'm surprised that Saw, Frailty and The Ring haven't been).

I thought I would list 5 horror films of the more obscure variety.

Sinister (2012) ... A found footage movie done well.
The Strangers (2008) ... A home invasion movie where the randomness of the act is the whole point.
Don't Breathe (2016) ... A highly original premise. A blind "victim" of a home invasion is the bad guy.
Alice, Sweet Alice (1976) ... As creepy as it gets.

... and one of my all-time personal faves, which nobody here has probably seen :

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) ... Awesome.

Let’s Scare Jessica to Death Is 50, but Its Portrayal of Gaslighting Is Timeless

Was waiting for you to pop up in here. I haven't but I've been meaning to. What's your top 5?

It’s so difficult lol.. I guess I’d have to say
The exorcist
Original Halloween
The evil dead
The Texas chainsaw massacre (original)
The witch

I know some people aren’t fans, but I also love the conjuring 1 and 2. The shining, insidious 1 and 2, sinister, the babadook, hereditary, just so many great films lol…
Definitely check dr sleep out when you have a chance.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is on almost every list. I've never understood the fuss over it.

^^^^ It did have the most annoying slasher movie victim ever. ^^^^

Leatherface did us all a favor, if you ask me.
