Top 5 instant impact freshmen

Kyle Phillips may allow the coaches to keep Maggit at LB more often giving us more versatility on defense. Jancek would be able to be a little more exotic with his pass rushing schemes if you can have Maggit, Weatherd, Barnett, Phillips, and JRM on the field at the same time. This would allow him to slide Barnett over as a DT in obvious passing situations.

LOL What?

RDA is your #3 overall newcomer?..

RDA is going to immediately get playing time at Slot, RB, and at KR. I can see him housing a couple of kick returns. Ralph is a little jitterbug as a runner. Yes, he is a very small guy, but he is extremely quick. Tubbs misused him in Cincy. He will make the difference in at least one game with his returning skills.

I haven't seen Preston Williams name mentioned yet. Is that because everyone expects him to redshirt?

PW is coming off an acl injury and we have a very experienced, deep, and talented receiving corps.

So you expect an also-ran transfer from a mid major to come in here and beat out Evan Berry (who was electric once given the chance) for kick return responsibility.

You expect him to get significant run with Hurd, Kamara, & Kelly most likely all in front of him.

You think he'll get immediate reps at slot with North, Pig, Pearson, Malone, Croom, Smith, Johnson, Wolf, Ellis, & Creamer all in the fold looking for catches.

Ok...

Lol he isn't better than Devrin Young.. Quick, not super fast though. Return specialist, and nothing more. Not our best option there either

He's better than Devrin Young. Way better. I personally think we should try to redshirt Kelly also.

He played the same level of comp that DY should have been playing... I'm just not expecting much

If you haven't checked RDA's stats from Cincinnati he was their KOR...besides playing RB. While he is only 5'7" 167 he is probably going to be the fastest player on the team. He should team with Evan Berry as the Vols key KOR. At UC, Abernathy had over 2100 yards in KO returns with one TD of 90 yards and he averaged 25 yards per return. Think Pig Howard but faster and stronger. People who saw him play in HS have said that he is a gamer and tough as nails. He joins his brother on the team. :hi:

Top 5 Newcomers

1. McKenzie- Day one starter
2. Martin- Day one starter opposite Sutton
3. Kamara- Impact player that will split carries with Hurd
4. Richmond- If he don't start day one, he will by mid season at LT or RT
5. Phillips- Good depth at DE but he's too talented to keep off the field

Kirkland, Tuttle, Preston Williams, and others could easily have been on this list also. Deciding on which 5 to put on the list is a great problem to have as a Vol fan. This class is loaded with talent!

agree 100% with your 5.

I'll add Austin Smith as the surprise early contributor of this class. And by the end of the season don't be surprised if Darrell Taylor is making big plays.
