Tosu vs. UT: Matchup

As they say on a stock prospectus, past performance is no indicatior of future performance, but Ohio State generally seems to be over-rated and get the benefit of the doubt by pollsters. They rarely live up to their hype when they get matched up against SEC teams.

Ohio State is 3-9-1 all-time against SEC teams and two of those three wins have come against Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

How many of the players from that '78 Ohio State team are playing for them this year?

:yahoo:

I'm just trying to point out that cruising through a Big 10 schedule is rarely as daunting as it's made out to be, and doesn't seem to prepare Ohio State to compete against tougher bowl competition.

Ohio State may be the best team in the country and obviously their big victory over Texas's freshman quarterback playing his first real college game impressed you.

Penn State and Iowa were both ranked when TOSU played them.

Both those teams would get thrashed by UT, as well. Iowa lost to Indiana. Penn State almost lost to Illinois. Not to mention that Penn State kept the game really close before throwing several pick-6's in the final minutes.

How did Ohio State perform in the Big Ten in those years they played SEC schools?

I'll have to research that and get back to you. Most of the games were New Year's Day bowls, so I would think they must have done pretty well.

I remember in 1995, the year they lost to the Vols, they were 11-1 heading into the game, having only lost to Michigan.

True. I'll look up how they did in 1986-1988.

Doesn't look like Cooper could beat Michigan or an SEC team.

So, SEC teams beating 2, 3, 4, and 5 loss Tosu teams (losses against non SEC competition) is somehow being skewed now to prove that Tosu rarely lives up to the hype? What hype was surrounding Tosu in '87 and '88???

Tennessee was ranked last year when we played several of our early games. It didn't really mean we were a good team did it?

Funny how I didnt say anything about us being a good team last year, or penn state and iowa being good this year. I merely stated a fact, that yes...they were ranked when ohio state played them.

OSU is not unbeatable and I dont believe they could make it in the SEC undefeated. The only other team more overhyped is CAL.

Also, exactly one of those wins was against Jim Tressel and that was at the end of his first year.

I agee, however Cal can whip us all over the field on the computer.

Worthy of an AMEN! Brother!

I wish I had a dollar for every team that was picked by the computers and lost.

Maybe we should be playing Portland ST also. Then we might not be so overrated. Portland ST would validate our win over CAL then.

The computers don't pick anyone to win.

EDITED TO ADD: The humans who run the computers do though.

Of course Tosu would not make it out alive in the SEC. Florida is so completely dominant that they have to rely on a gimmick freshman QB whenever the game gets tight...Heck, I would even bet that Tosu would challenge Vandy and Kentucky every year for last place in the SEC!!!

Stop drinking the SEC Kool-Aid down here! There is plenty of good football played in the Big Ten and Big XII, and Tosu is clearly the most dominant team in the NCAA thus far this far!

The big 12 isnt good this year. The big 10 is average.

We are the best con.f this year by a lot in my opinion.

but OSU is the best now.

Everyone else

As I've said 190987 times here, I love SEC football as much as ANYBODY and I think it's the best. However, the gap isn't as large as some of you homers think.
