I was watching a CBS SEC game of the week preview on YouTube for the Missouri game and Dennis Dodd said that we need Ohio State to beat Michigan because that knocks Michigan out. I agree on that but he also said that if Michigan beats Ohio State then Ohio State wouldn’t drop out of the top 4. Why would they not? We were 1 lost to 3 away and dropped to 5. Ohio State is 1 and would lose to 3 and would have their loss at the end of the season on their own field while we would finish strong with 3 wins with two on the road.

We won’t get to play for a conference championship and neither would Ohio State. They also keep saying that conference championships carry more weight. Why does their loss carry less weight than ours in the same exact scenario? He did say margin of victory matters. We lost by 14 as the visitor at Georgia. Ohio state would have lost on their home field to Michigan which is good for at least a 7 point difference between our loss away and their loss at home as far and point spread prediction assuming they lost to Michigan by a touchdown or less. I’m telling ya, we are gonna get screwed out of the playoff and a Heisman.
Tennessee had the number 1 strength of schedule

Ohio State was 2nd

Tcu was 3rd

This was the first playoff committee pick when Tennessee was ranked 1st.

OHIO st = Bama when it comes to polls and rankings. They have to lose 5 times before they drop out of the top 10.

Both Mich and OSU have super weak schedules this year with best wins being 3 loss ND (that lost to Marshall) and Penn St which has QB issues. Mich has a 2+ loss Illinios coming up and Penn St at home. Just look at Michigan schedule below, it is embarrassingly soft:

If you’re right, Hendon will the third Tennessee football player to get screwed out of a Heisman in the last 70 or so years. Most of my generation realized that the award is a worthless joke after Peyton got screwed. I haven’t paid any attention to it since. If Hendon wins, I will be happy and proud for him. I will pay attention for a few minutes for him.

It's hard to see OSU getting in if they lose at home to Michigan. But...if Michigan loses a close one in Columbus, the Wolverines may still have a chance.

I agree with your thoughts. We need Ohio to beat Mich. handily, and we are in,, and if TCU loses, I predict we will be number 3. But this also hinges on us winning out big too.

I totally agree with you on this. If we played the schedules some of thos top ranked teams played we would still be undefeated.

That's the burden of playing n the SEC. Heck, if TN was in the SECW you would still be undefeated, lesser conferences be damned.

Let's be fair, before UT was in the Top 5, this committee has been inconsistent with its rationale. Not saying you points are not accurate, but placing this decision in the hands of people who "say" there is no basis...please!

This is my take on what they are discussing: How can we get teams from B10, B12, SEC ACC/PAC and hope a team like TCU or Cincinnati does not spoil the party for the Power 5, to satisfy the commissioners outside the SEC? You know, no one whines better than the B10.

I don’t see LSU making the playoffs even if they win the Seccg. Not with 2 losses.

Top team in the SEC west? SEC championship game? Really left out of playoff? You could be right, but not likely... Lets say you are right and the powers that be pick Ga., who wins the playoff set of games. What do you say then if you are the college football know it alls? This is not the same as basketball or baseball where it is alright for a team to get hot and win it all regardless of their season record, but if Ga. were to win out in this scenario, I guess we will be following the baseball - basketball idea. But it's hard for me to accept this type of situation because of the limited number of games in a season for football.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but why make it "THE" I mean aren't they the only Ohio State University? Is there more than one? Are their fans too dumb to realize they're the only one? Idk why that irks me.
Ohio University is significantly older. When Ohio State was established in 1874 there was a push to demote the status of the existing state university (as well as Miami University) but eventually Ohio University was able to secure continued state support. Ohio State seems to be threatened enough by their older neighbor that they insist on being called THE state university, when of course Ohio has a bunch of state universities.
