Know what, checkerboard, after I posted that I thought maybe that's what you meant. Sorry 'bout that retort.

Have you ever been to Fayetteville? For atmosphere and noise, I'm not sure they don't beat Alabama. The Tide is probably second in the league in bluehairs.

In Bama they dye their gray hair that fakey blonde that fools no one, so technically they are not blue hairs... :shades:

our fans at the games are definitely more tame now. when i went to the SEC title game in 01, i was actually shsh'd by our own fans....we probably out numbered LSU fans 2-1 in the GA dome, but you'd of never known it by the noise. really disappointed.

too many blue hairs at Neyland, not enough 20 somethings and 30 somethings to raise a little hell. the only games we get up for any more and it's really loud are the UF/Bama games...

And God forbid we do something wrong, then they all sit on their hands....i think a lot of people have forgotten that it's just not big plays that should require cheering, or that only when we are up, we should cheer....cheering when we are down, by any margin, is when it is needed the most.

but we're also the same fan base that will start the freakin' wave when we're on offense....huh?

During the 01 season when we played LSU in Neyland, i sat next to to two LSU fans who made the trip up from Baton Rouge, and they were suprised...they thought it would be louder with all those people....

hopefully we'll step up this season, and get back to form.

Auburn and Florida should be right up there. Those are the only 2 I really agree with. Alabama has as much or more complacency as we do. It can get loud at times, but it's not anymore intimidating than Neyland.

LSU is great at night, but of course, if they can't play at night, their fans seemingly don't show up.

Georgia is much like Alabama. They get loud at times, but at times can be very quiet, ie every time we went there in the 90's.

IMO, here are the toughest places to play:
1. LSU at night
2. Florida
3. Auburn
4. UGA
5. UT
6. Bama
7. ARK
8. USC
9. MSU
10. Ole Miss
11. KY
12. Vandy.

IMO there's not much difference between, Tennessee, UGA, Florida, LSU, SC and Auburn. Too loud to hear is too loud to hear.

I would switch Ole Miss and MSU, but that's just my opinion no that it matters. But over all i agree.

I dunno, those cowbells can get rowdy sometimes. LOL
i base that on going to games at both locations...i've been to two games at Ole Miss, neither one UT games, and two games at MSU, one was the 94 UT game which they won. Ole Miss was pretty cool, i didn't witness anything too rowdy, but in both games at MSU, one was a UGA game, and the other the 94 TN game, those guys in maroon get rowdy....real rowdy. It's not too terribly loud, but they aren't scared to throw things at opposing fans or players.

Yes I have and I can tell you that there is NO way it is louder than Neyland. War Memorial in Little Rock is louder than Reynolds Razorback stadium in Fayetteville.

This is crazy to try and compare. It mostly depends on who the team is playing. I remember our first game back after 911 against LSU. That was a very, very loud crowd. I had LSU fans tell me it was as loud as they had ever heard.

I agree and it drives me crazy sometimes but you could kick 20,000 of those people out and we would still be louder than several of the 7 listed above us.

That may be, but UT hasn't exactly been protecting its home turf in the big games over the last several years. The ranking said the Toughest Places to Play, not the loudest stadiums in which to play. I'm sure our opponents are more than happy to come in to Neyland and leave hard of hearing but with a W added to their schedule.

Last year was my first year with season tickets and when I would get up and cheer I would get looks from the older people around me, Im 24 by the way, so this year I have moved my seats and hopefully I will be by more rabid fans!!!

from a personal experience, UGA is pretty tough. But I haven't been to LSU, UF, or Auburn, but i've been to the rest of them.

Tough to judge this contest, then. You've got (arguably) the top 3 there.

i know that i hadn't been to the other top 3, and really don't plan on it either, too many bad stories.

Don't let those scare you away. Some of my fondest Vol memories are from "feared" SEC away games. Watching the rumbling, stumbling defensive runback from the 1st row beneath the goalposts at Auburn '98, the Hail Mary at UF in '03. . . . .I could go on. Athens is a great football town. The people in Columbia were quite welcoming last time I visited (although with the Head Cock there now, who knows?).

My thinking is this: Neyland will be full, with or without you. Go and support the Vols on the road whenever you get the chance. More often than not, it will be well worth your time and money. And, you will ALWAYS return with at least one story to tell.

So true. Most folks that attend away games are little rowdier than the the homebodies.

Road games are fun...as long as you win.

If not, it can get ugly (UF97, 99, Auburn 03, etc.)

It was a joke. Strakville is the most boring place on the face of the earth. The stadium fits right, especially with the cowbells and their relentless playing of "Who Let the Dogs Out?".

Ole Miss, at least, has a little atmosphere, stuck up as they may be.

Maybe so, if you're in the band. The only thing rough about Ole Miss is the pavement in Oxford. Football games are reminiscent of Friday afternoon happy hour at the Art Museum: a lot of people there to see and be seen, but not terribly knowledgable or interested in the subject matter. Don't get me wrong: LOTS of fun and sweet scenery (uh. . . .if you're single), but don't even think about comparing Oxford to the Swamp, B-D, or Neyland.
