Just have to say it makes me sick when these
polticians put on these shows. Is there a single
poltician that actually believes he has more interest
in solving the problems than do the employees at
Toyota?

I agree. These guys need to worry about the real nations problems, more than getting in front of a camera to drill a NON US automaker, who has a lot of plants here in the US. I don't even know if you would consider Toyota an import per say. They may even pass healthcare while this dog and pony show is going on.

Toyota isn't doing themselves any favors either.

Perhaps not but it is rather rich for policitians to
lecture them. They screw up all kinds of things.
Toyota's customers will have the final say on how
Toyota handles things.

F Toyota. GMC, Chysler and Ford have never sold any cars in Japan. You won't see any WWII vets driving many Toyota's either.

Since the advent of the modern Japanese car companies, why would the Japanese want to buy GMC, Chrysler, or Ford when they could buy Honda or Toyota and be buying a 'home product'?

Other than being a script for some pro-union
commercial, WTF does this have to do with
anything.

Asian death machines? There have been what? 34 deaths caused by this? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the number I keep hearing. How many were killed by the firestone/ford deal nearly a decade ago? This may also seem heartless but this defect is 100% avoidable at any time or speed: put the damn thing in neutral for crying out loud. Ya, you will most likely blow your engine but you nor anyone else are going to die. Anymore the "Asian" cars are more American made than the American mades and they aren't hamstrung by the UAW. (Not only that they are mostly in the South so go go local economy).

At the end if there is a problem yes Toyota needs to ball up and admit it and fix it. However, I think this is being way over blown by our Gov't, and I can't help but sneak out my tin foil hat and not wonder if this has anything to do with their ownership stakes in 2/3 of the big 3.

Couldn't agree more and I don't care who is on the other side of the grilling.

I think each of these Congressional members should have to be on the other side while we trash them.

It's truly sickening.

It would not surprise me one bit if this were true. I heard on the news that this has been a systemic problem at Toyota over the last few years. It is very interesting it is just coming out now, and there is a big fuss over it.

I'm not defending Toyota by any means, they need to correct the problem. But all this Congressional fuss is suspect IMO.

reminds me of the audi scare 10 years ago where they said that hitting the brake caused it to spead up in some models. turned out to be completely false and every report was pilot error. torpedoed audi's business for years though.

i own a lexus and it's a spectacular car and nothing these idiots in congress say will change my mind. and btw my lexus was produced in the US.

Well, the employees at Toyota didn't solve the problems, and continued selling defective cars.

So here we are today.

I still can't bring myself to label it as a systematic problem ( I understand your point not picking at you) like the media/gov't has been just because there are millions of these things on the road and still not very many reported cases. I'm not saying nothing should be done or investigated (internally by Toyota), but I really think they are way overblowing this issue. Just wonder what and why for?

They wouldn't. My question really is why would we want a trading partner, who will buy few of our cars, but sell most of theirs here?

Toyota is about as foreign as the US guys. They all have parts made overseas and some here in the US.

They manufacture some of their cars here, but I have worked in the auto industry. What people don't understand it, there is whole group of auto parts suppliers that are hurt when the American car companies do poorly. It's difficult to be a Japanese supplier, and they cars are designed by engineers in Japan.
Why?

Again... Why?

I think the U.S. auto industry employs more Americans then the Japanese industry. The deteriorating manufacturing sector in this country hurts the U.S. economy.

the part in bold is simply not true.

as for your other, equally ridiculous comment,

Forest Hills, NY - WWII Vet Crashes Into Synagogue Blames Toyota -- VosIzNeias.com

I can assure you not many Japanese POW's are driving Japanese cars. They were treated brutally.
