Yes, as I stated a few posts above this one, I am proud to drive a Chevy. I can say that my 15-year-old Chevy has never experienced any major malfunction, and certainly never one that threatened anyone's life. That is more than a number of Toyota drivers can say about their car.

the fact that you drive a 15 year old Chevy threatens people's lives.

Obviously, it's a matter of opinion. I know people who have had many problems with their Chevys, and won't buy another. I had a Cavalier Z24 at one point and loved it. I now have two Toyotas in my driveway, and have had zero issues with either one. And when it comes time to get another vehicle, my first stop will still be my Toyota dealer.

In my case, the driver may be more of the problem than the car.

:ermm:

I take it you're not a Chevy guy.

I own a 1994 GMC Sonoma (full disclosure).

but, no, I'm not a Chevy guy. Their commercials with Howie Long are annoying, their radio ads featuring the best-of Onstar are annoying. Their pickup trucks and SUV's are ugly. Their flagship sedans, the Impala and the Malibu, are studies in corporate blandness. The new Camaro isn't bad, but is nearly outperformed in V6 form by the Hyundai Genesis and the Camaro SS gets spanked by the 4.6 liter Mustang GT. The Aveo is a rebadged Daewoo.

Chevy's only decent car is the Corvette, and it's a niche car.

I never thought my father's Chevy pickup was all that ugly, personally....but I was also groomed to like them growing up :). I drove a Buick, then Pontiac, and now Honda....so I guess I'm just a miscreant.

I actually like the new Malibu, although I wish it were RWD and came in an SS version. The Impala needs to go.

Actually, the Camaro SS is faster than the GT from 0-60. And, in my opinion, the Camaro is much better looking than the Mustang.

I will agree with you that the Aveo is garbage.

And, to address your last statement, Corvette rules!

the reason why neither the Malibu nor the Impala are RWD is because Chevy couldn't meet CAFE standards with an RWD platform. At least that's what I read in Car and Driver.

I don't see why they couldn't build them on the Zeta platform (Pontiac G8) or on the Sigma platform (Cadillac). I could be oversimplifying, though.

No doubt. As I said, I like them both, though I wish the Malibu were RWD. The Corvette, however, is still the best car Chevy makes.

With the advancements in traction control there is no reason not to go back to RWD. It's simply a better handling approach.

RWD is one reason I've been so hooked on german cars (BMW in particular). Hoping in a FWD after driving one is a major disappointment.

I wish American car companies would return to RWD entirely. I really just don't understand the fascination in this country with FWD.

In developing the new Camaro, Chevy depended heavily its Australian division because RWD still is predominate in that country.

All I have to say is:

Torque + RWD + Snow = FUN

On different matters my dad encountered an acceleration issue with his Camry about 2 years ago. He asked the dealer and they pretty much gave him the same line that Toyoda is giving the public now. Regardless, something looks fishy in that at least 4 investigators from the NHTSA into the Toyota case are now employees of none other than Toyota.

What I find sad is no one can seem to put these in neutral... I mean at the beginning of this week they had another story and they even detailed that the guy had the presence of mind to DIAL 911 AND TALK TO SOMEONE WHILE GOING "100" MILES AN HOUR. Yet could not think to just put it in neutral? Heck they even had a cop car with a loud horn yelling at him to do just that (after the ebreak obviously failed).
