Trae Golden

I've been one of traes biggest supporters, but trae WTF?

These last 2 games have been horrific, and frankly unlike trae. He's showing no emotion, i have to wonder if there's some personal stuff going on in his life.

Two games in a row we've been down double digits with him as our PG, and two games in a row Lopez has come in and brought us back.

I don't remember it being this bad though. The thing that's getting me, he's showing no emotion, looks lethargic or like he doesn't even care. BLo gets the guys fired up, gets in their faces and smacks em on the a$$ when they've done something good.

I never in a million years thought id say this, but with skylar not being able to throw the ball in the ocean, I may try BLo at the 1 and Trae at the 2. Or BLo at the 1 and Jordan at the 2, he's deserving of a starting spot and more minutes.

I hope the shoulder injury isn't worse than they're telling us like they did with Maymon's injury.

We're a banged up squad right now. It sucks to be going into the SEC season with basically a MASH unit.

I agree, BTO. He's not showing any mental tenacity, which is more alarming than his inability to produce recently IMO.

Yes you have. Almost blindingly so. You think he's a great PG that occasionally has a bad game. I think he's a thoroughly average guard that occasionally has a good game. I'm not sure how anyone can praise the PG on one of the worst offensive teams in the country.

I don't dislike the guy, and I hope he turns out to be great one day. Soon! ...for crying out loud

I think he may be hurt more than we know. Not the same Trae Golden.

If that's true then that's a big complaint of mine on Martin, so secretive? Miller? What the heck is with that guy, his surgery was supposed to be simple and be ready for Italy? Maymon? Supposed to be back for summer, then Italy. Then supposed to just miss November, then December, now the season?

I understand details are limited, but how about realistic timetables?

We're screwed. Other teams only have to overplay Golden early and then he goes MIA.
Then we finish with a walk-on @ PG.

SUCKS! He is not a SEC point guard. I have said this since day one! He needs to be playing in the 2 guard spot and back up PG if needed. I think the best thing for him and our team is for him to get benched. He might play better coming off the bench.

Last 3 games:

1/16 FGs
and who knows how many bad plays
and a very piss poor effort!

He hasn't sucked his entire career and he has proven he can be a solid SEC PG. Which is why I think the poor play is due to injury.

It's really been three games. He is 1-16, 6 assts, 7 TOs, 5 rebs, and 1 stl, in his last three games.

Those are awful stats honestly. On top of that, he is a poor leader on the court. That fact is excusable when he his game line is 10+ pts, 5+ assts, and 3+ rebs. It's not when you are 0-5, with 4 TOs, 1 asst, 0 rebs.

Gosh that's freaking awful.

BLo time, he's earned it.

whether playing Golden (as he is now) or Lopez, it's going to be brutal. Lopez can't score and couldn't stay in front of his man. and we all know of Golden's past 3 games.

yes, Lopez doesn't turn it over, but he doesn't create anything either.

Lopez atleast pushes the ball and shows some emotion, more than Golden's doing lately.

Lopez has made some pretty good strides. Once he loses all of his tentativness, he'll be fine. I actually thought he held his own with Jackson tonight. Nobody is staying in front of that guy.

This is about Lopez's ceiling though. He isn't some highly rate recruit coming into his own. He doesn't bring much to the table. That's why Golden has to get healthy or figure it out because UT will barely make the NIT with Lopez at PG.

And Jackson abused him left and right. There are plenty of players that can slow him down. Lopez is not one.

He may not create anything for himself, but I feel he gets the ball in the hands of those who can create.

In his last two games, where he has actually played significant minutes, he has 2 pts, 3 assts, 2 stls, 2 rebs, and 0 TOs in 27 total minutes.

On the other hand, Trae has 9 pts (all at the FT line), 2 assts, 1 stl, 1 reb, and 6 TOs in 44 minutes.

No he doesn't. He passes it off and hides in the offense.

Trae has had some bad games yes, but he also has all SEC ability whenever his problems are solved. Lopez will lead UT to an first round NIT loss.

Lopez doesn't attack the rim like Golden but he seems more sure handed in his ball handling than Golden. His job is to distribute and he makes better passes into the post than Golden. UT made its run in the 2nd half when Golden was sitting. He also was in the middle of a run when they came back from 10 down against Xavier. That wasn't a coincidence.

I don't remember questioning Trae's SEC ability. I take exception with you saying he creates nothing. He gets the ball in his teammates' hands. Does he hide within the halfcourt sets? Sure. So do Chievous, Yemi, and Skylar to an extent.

I'll take 3 assts to 0 TOs in a limited role over 2 assts to 6 TOs in a primary role, and that doesn't mean I want Lopez leading this team long-term because I think Trae is obviously a better player. Right now, he's struggling and I feel you are minimizing Lopez's contribution.

Agree to disagree though.

All I'm saying is, UT is in trouble if they stick with Lopez at PG throughout the year.

UT would've been in deep trouble if they stuck with Trae for the Xavier and Memphis game. Lopez was the one who was in, in both games when we came back.

Coincidence? I'm leaning towards no.
