Just a thought, but Trae's dad seemed to give a hint of why he is transferring in this article on GVX today:

Contacted Wednesday afternoon, Robert Golden, Trae’s father, initially declined comment. He then, however, called Tuesday’s reports “totally inaccurate.” “No, no, no,” he said regarding Golden’s alleged academic issues. “It’s not that. My son, he’s fine in that area. He’s just going to pursue some other opportunities.” ... Robert Golden said the possibility of his son transferring is “something that we have talked about for at least three months,” and said Martin and Trae Golden “have an understanding about what’s going on and what’s happened.”

3 months? That is RIGHT in the heart of the SEC season...

So, what happened three months ago?

I remember how some of us were discussing the shoulder injury, and if that was the reason for Trae's struggles or if it was his head and heart not being in the game.

Again, it's just a thought. Trying to connect the dots.

(edited to remove an old link)

He got his first grey hair, started waking up 3 X at night to pee, and started eating supper a 4:30pm?

and naps
and driving with his blinker on
and... ok I'll quit.

He was cheating. UT told him to move along. He's not going to admit to cheating because it hurts his chances elsewhere. Dots connected.

All indications point to the fact that he won't even be able to play even if he does in fact transfer. That is unless is able to transfer and redshirt or something like that.

The redshirt won't be the problem. It's whether he can get admitted to another university if, in fact, he has done something to stain his academic record.

Just a dad trying to save a son's reputation. Understandable. On the other hand, if every student who tried getting a copy of a test before an exam or copied someone else's work got kicked out there wouldn't be enough students to pay Booger Cheek's salary. Not saying it is the right thing to do, but adding a little perspective.

Trae will be missed by me and the team this season.

Looks like more than a coincidence that he got publicly benched by Martin, including not starting the KY game in spite of Coach Martin saying to the media that his shoulder wasn't the reason, and then around that time he starts talking to his dad about transferring.

So...youre saying trae is transferring on his own, because of a benching this year he received for an apparent injury? But he's telling his friends it wasn't his choice that he's leaving and its being covered up by a plagiarism scandal?

Why not just say he's transferring lol

And for those who haven't seen the comments, Martin and Trae's dad have both said they knew this was coming for a while. Martin said "a few weeks" and Trae's dad said they (he and Trae) started talking about it 3 months ago.

People who've been to college know that you don't get busted for "repeated plagiarism" and stay in school at all, much less staying in good academic standing to preserve your eligibility. Plagiarism gets you in serious hot water, and repeated plagiarism gets you dismissed the SECOND the appeals process has run it's course. Trae could have gotten busted a while back and taken this long to go through appeals, but there is NO WAY he sets foot on a basketball court while appealing a dismissal for plagiarism.

Either people are flat lying about the time-frame, or he's not being kicked out b/c of cheating. Unfortunately there is not clear evidence either way at this point, and the only people who know are telling a strange story that doesn't add up.

You've seen or heard Trae say this? No of course not, but Trae's dad HAS publicly said he's leaving on his own. So you ignore what is proven to be said and 100% believe what no one has seen or heard said?

lol yourself.

You obviously didn't read the article that was linked. Martin made clear the benching was NOT b/c of the injury at that time.

So you're saying trae is just simply transferring? No academic concerns, team issues, legal problems, he's just transferring? Obviously not for PT since he was the only PG really on the roster, he's just transferring?

Mind you it's being reported by UT that he is NOWHERE near close on credits to graduate, so he will now be required to sit out a year before he plays his final season somewhere...

I find it hard to believe its that simple...If it was you wouldn't see the reports of academic issues being put out by every media outlet. If it was simply a transfer because he wanted to go somewhere else it would be said as much, not some cover up. And what do you make of his best friend saying publicly this wasn't trae's decision, this isn't what he wanted?

Glad somebody else notice the "NOWHERE NEAR" in that article. Thought it sounded like a little jab at Trae. They could have just said he wouldnt be eligible due to lack of credits. lol

Kind of contradicts what Trae's dad is saying, UT basically made it sound like he wasn't in the best shape academically.

I don't if I agree with that. A kid at the end of his 3rd year and on pace to graduate in 4 is "nowhere near" close to graduating early either. It's not like you can knock out 32 semester hours (assuming 16 hours a semester) over the summer.
