Transfer Portal 21-22

Cameron Swartz (5-11 SR shooting guard, Marietta, GA) has entered her name into the portal, as a grad-xfer out of Boston College WBB—their leading scorer in 2021-22 (16.1 PPG), first-team All-ACC, ACC Most Improved Player; previously transferred mid-freshmen year from Colorado

She can shoot the rock and take and create

To be honest, I really do not know, but whoever it is they are not the best they need to be. It might require bringing someone from the outside, or receiving help from one of the men’s BB coaches.
But how can we say that when Striplin has good post fundamentals? Maybe, just maybe it’s up to the players to actually implement what they’re being coached to do, in game.

I can see her going to Florida replacing Kiki Smith ? Also i think they have a better team. Kelly Rae will be very active in the portal i think.

I’m not sure if she’ll be able to land anyone. I think the KRF thing is a huge experiment. This was primed to be Newbauer’s best season by far. She inherited a ready to go roster this season but will have to build her own this year. Her tenure there will definitely ride on who she can pick up this off-season.

True but what she did with that team has to make some players in the portal believe that she can coach?

It is up to players to trying and improve their weaknesses, and/or their skill set, however, they can only go so far. It is also up to coaches to identify their players’ weaknesses and help them make improvements. Players can’t always identify what is absent in their game and what needs improvement. This is why you hire coaches who have the ability to improve the play of players. This is also why teams have position coaches. Coaches are also available to help players as the players try to improve their abilities. Striplin may have come to college with good fundamentals from high school. Not all players are coached up the same way in high school or come to college ready for the college game.

Another 2019 McDonald's All American into the portal: Kennedy Brown (6-6 RS SO forward, Derby, KS), out of Oregon State WBB; her younger sister Addy Brown (https://wbbblog.com/addy-brown/) is a 2023 Iowa State commit

Would bet Kellie is very familiar with Kennedy. I’m sure she recruited her when she was at Mo State being that close

I will agree that it's up to the players TO BE WILLING TO PUT IN THE TIME to improve their games, maximizing their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses. But how can they improve unless there is an expert teacher present to guide them? If I am a pkayer, in the off season, who desperately wants to improve, unless I have someone actually showing me how I could think/move/react/perform better, then I'd not not know how to use my off-season to get better.

We've seen precedence with Rae Burrell and Aliyah Boston taking it upon themselves to find someone outside the coaching staff to improve their games. The players who want it will find a way to get it.

Pretty sure the coaches give the players a list of things they need to work on in the off season. Jordan works with her high school coach when she goes home

Personally, I feel Key could be an AA if she tried. IMHO her problem Is effort. At times she doesn’t run the court. I feel at year 3 she should have mastered a lay up and playing with her back to the goal, specifically two feet from the goal.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Key, but her offensive game is what is lacking and to me 60% of that isn’t coaching. If it wasn’t for her height she would not play.

She has a lot to work on, and in my opinion she needs to own it. She needs to work on mobility, free throws, weight room and playing with her back to the basket. Defensively I think she is good. Mainly because she can control the middle and change players shots due to her blocking ability.

Like you, I myself believe it comes down to a personal mindset and effort to get better. Burrell put in massive amount of time and effort to get better. She succeeded! If Key did the same thing she would be a force on the offensive side of the ball as well..

Kellie emphasizes getting the ball inside the post. So imagine if we had that dominant post player. Would definitely could have gotten past the sweet sixteen, with or without the injuries. Hopefully Key does the off season work to take her game to the next level.
