Transfer Portal 21-22

Gina Conti and Jordan Lewis are probably the last two names in the portal that could help us. There are some other good players, but most from lesser conferences. They are the only two with P5 playing experience and a proven track record that haven’t been scooped up.

Unless we can pick up either of them I’d say we really wouldn’t be adding much with a transfer.

Any others out there that might help us? Was hoping we were in on Juhasz

Gina Conti to UCLA is confirmed... they stacked up from the transfer portal

They probably won’t have any because they only had like 5 players remaining after graduations. They had at least 3 players who were never able to join the team this year due to COVID. The two Aussies decided to forgo coming over altogether and just play pro over there.

That one is a bummer for me. Was really hoping for Gina, seemed like a player who would fit Kellie’s system. In reality we didn’t have as many minutes to offer her as UCLA though.

Has UK brought in any transfers yet? I don’t think I’ve seen any.

They have not and it will be REALLY disappointing if they fail to do so. Kyra is in her 1st off-season as head coach (which is a critical time imo) and HAS to address the lack of bodies and size situation in the post. I keep trying to remind myself that it's only April and that there will be many more transfers and players that will come up that we haven't heard of yet, but it's getting to be a little worrisome.

UConn not really any better inside than they were before this player committed just another body. Whether they win or lose every game will depend on their perimeter players again next season. They will be even better on the perimeter with the added freshmen. They don't have much chance to lose in the Big East, but playing at SC and against teams like Stanford and a few others always present the chance to lose.

Here's another name in the transfer portal to keep an eye on. Could be she's planning on going to Alabama, but I saw her play against MSST and TAMU and she's the real deal. Aggressive rebounder and very nice midrange shot. She would be an upgrade over anyone on next year's roster as a 4.

Definitely one of the ones who raised my eyebrows when I saw the announcement. Like you I watched her play against MSST and A&M and felt she was legit. Hope she is one we would consider.

I don't know about that. She's got range and she can rebound. The issue with the Edwards/ONO pairing is that it clogged up the middle since neither of them had a reliable jumpshot. They've fixed that for next season. Combine that with the Fudd coming in next year (assuming that Bueckers, Fudd and Williams will be the three in the backcourt when it counts), there will be no shortage of open looks for anyone...especially the inside players.

She shot 20 percent from the three and 42 from from the free throw line if that continues she is no help and far less than the post they already have. I don't think she scares anyone. She didn't at Ohio State and pending a lot of improvement in efficiency as a player won't be a factor there either.

She also shot 40% from deep last season, so she's shown she can be a consistent outside shooter. 14.6 pts and 11.1 rbs on 49% shooting in B10 are impressive numbers. She won't come close to that, but she will create problems for opposing defenses with her height and range.

1.12 points per shot attempt is not scary for a post player. Maybe she will be something better there she didn't scare any of Ohio States opponents. What do you mean by deep she was 12 of 59 from the three.

She scored almost 15 points per game and was OSU's 2nd leading scorer. I'm pretty sure she had the opposing team's attention. The 40% from deep was what she shot last season, not this year. Also, she's not just a post player. She scores a lot of her points facing the basket on jumpers or drives. This clip shows her versatility in scoring.

We'll see how it turns out she is a 1.12 points per shot attempt last season while Key was 1.54 she just takes a lot more shots than Key to score her ppg. She can make a three now and then and make 4 of 10 attempts at the free throw line. She is more what is a volume shooter to get that average. Last season her efficiency as as an offensive post player was not that great. She also only had 17 blocked shots in 513 minutes of play. I guess she gives them another option JMO I don't see their post play improving a whole lot from what it was last season. She takes away shot attempts from other players and after she starts missing a lot of free throws Geno will find her a spot at the end of the bench. Only time will tell how she will help them. I guess if ONO keeps failing she is at least another option to try.

Key was at 1.54 pts per attempt because she rarely takes shots more than 5 feet away from the basket. Not sure how Dorka could be considered a volume shooter and taking away shots from other players; she shoots a pretty high percentage from the floor and was 2nd on the team in FG% (0.5% off the team leader). Her FG% was better than Rennia Davis'. I don't know what's up with her FT% though. That appears to be something that is consistent over her 3 playing years and doesn't make much sense considering she is a face-up type of player. But I do think Geno will find a way to use her. She won't be a star, but she'll be able to keep the playing level high when he has his bench in.

Davis is over 1.30 per shot attempt this player was 1.12 last season. Maybe she will return to her sophomore form was much better that season. She will give him some minutes he can pull Ono when she is playing bad and she might be one of only four post players they have on the team as maybe one or more leave. The only point I make is she is not going to elevate their post play to that of SC or Stanford. They will still have to win with their perimeter players. She doesn't make them unbeatable as some here seem to think.

Yeah, I agree. She's a good pickup, but I don't think she makes them unbeatable either. She does give them post depth, which is something they haven't had for a few years though.

Still trying to find where Lewis committed to Baylor. I don't think it has happened yet. The reason we could use the portal would be offense and three point shooting. None of the freshmen and only Burrell as a returnee bring that to the team. Puckett seems to best option of the freshmen about 33 percent. Pissott is two years away we should've made her a reclassify player.
