Transfer Portal 21-22

Starting to get some of this stuff hope this is not going to be one of those highest bidder things. We'll certainly be out quickly we don't get into this kind of thing and we shouldn't. Of course we'd love for her to get NIL deals and if some schools are going to offer them as a recruiting tool that is just shameful.

Hell, how does it work? I have a business her and others can represent. I’m being serious. I don’t have Gatorade money, but I along with other business owners that are fans probably have enough that could add up to something.🤷🏾‍♀️

No idea how it works but I think step one is you have to have a coach receptive to it. Think UT has hired a company that handles all their transactions. Anyone that would like to get representation from a UT Athlete would have to go through them. My worry is the coaches that will do this on their own with boosters they are close to.

I’ve been saying for a month I don’t think she comes back this season. She’s supposed to be back mid February (which is in a few days) and she’s still hobbling around on crutches.

Just don’t see it happening. I’m especially curious to see it play out due to the comments Geno made about our program and the Westbrook situation. If they rush Bueckers back and she’s hurt more severely he should have to answer for it.

But he won’t. It’ll be someone else’s fault. Probably hers according to him.
She actually seems to be moving well in her brace and I haven’t seen her on crutches. She was pretty mobile on the bench the other day.

Last several games during warmups I still saw her with the crutches. She seems to walk around OK but I don’t think it’s anywhere near 100%

If fans are giving her a hard time that is low class. No way I could have put up with the BS they have going on right now.

Rickea is too talented to waste away in Starkville’s new mess. She has WNBA future and international potential. She has to go to a program where she can grow and be mentally and physically healthy.

The fact she stayed after the way Schaefer left was proof enough she was dedicated to the program. I can’t blame her at all for wanting out now.

Not sure why players' parents insist on speaking for their kids. Rickea is a grown woman.[/QUOTE
Right or wrong that's what parents are going to do because in their mind they are supporting their child. wouldn't surprise me one bit if she influenced her to just leave after Rickea explained the situation to her

I'm sure Rickea didn't make the decision to leave without consulting her friends and family. But Rickea is an adult and should be able to speak for herself. Her original IG post communicated her feelings perfectly. Here, the mom feels the need to defend her against all the detractors instead of a.) letting Rickea do it herself or b.) encouraging Rickea to just ignore them. As we know from this board, arguing with internet trolls is about as productive as banging your head on the wall.

How do you know her mom didn't do that? (encourage her to ignore them) How do you know Rickea didn't ask her mom to make this statement for her? I have no issue with her mom posting this or acting as her publicist especially if Rickea asked her mom to do so. I also don't think Rickea's message stated she's taking a few days before contacting coaches. This is the same as a player saying they will only be contacted through a certain person when entering the portal. I think you're making her mom comments bigger than they actually are.

Would you (or did you) say the same thing when Anastasia Hayes' or Evina Westbrook's parents were speaking up on behalf of their kids? Rickea's mom wasn't as...colorful as the aforementioned player parents I mentioned, but the gist is still the same. There are some things where they should let their kids handle and stay in the background where they belong.

I know one thing, these parents have a lot more restraint than I do. I don’t care if my child is 90, I will defend them with everything I have in my body until I take my last breath. That’s HER baby. She wasn’t disrespectful, she wasn’t rude. What was wrong with what she said?

No I was the one blasted on here for saying that I felt Annie's dad had a right to state how he felt about the situation at the time, just like I said the same thing when Diamond's dad made comments during Holly's tenure. I also never commented on Evina's mom nor Evina but was blocked by them on social media because I guess they assumed I was connected with the Hayes family. And I stand by everything I have said in the past on here and what I will say in the future. As we have seen over time, there were a lot of things happening during Holly's era that I don't blame parents for reacting the way they did. Her mom has every right to speak for her child and did so in a way that was not malicious at all. And I'd do the same for my children as well!

Exactly there was nothing wrong with what she said at all. But it is often those without children telling those with children how they should respond in relation to their child. I'll never understand that.

Nope, not that it matters. And it certainly didn't matter when I had parents contacting me asking why I didn't give their kids jobs when I did campus interviews either.
That's totally different, a parent calling asking why their child didn't get an interview/job isn't the same as a parent relaying how their child feels and asking the public to give her time and space while she makes her next move. If you feel they are the same, I don't know what to tell you.

As a parent I don't see anything wrong with what her Mom said or how she went about it. She didn't attack anyone or berate followers or the program she simply showed support and love for her kid etc. Rickea may not be a child but she's a young adult who obviously has been struggling with issues there for 3 years. her mom is being a mom. We don't just stop parenting when a kid hits 18 lol Maybe her mom is trying to shield her kid from some of the negatives so her kid can concentrate on her future. That doesn't take anything away from Rickea. You know who else used to put himself out there for the media (good and bad) for his kids so they didn't have to deal with the BS out there - Richard Williams. I'd say his actions most likely protected them from unnecessary BS out there allowed them to become the women they are today, Both are phenomenal humans as well as athletes

I disagree completely. If anything those parents comments caused controversy and put more unnecessary drama in their Kid's lives than they needed. It was more about attacking than supporting....The way they spoke could have even hurt some of their chances with some schools.

Coach Sam has always followed her. She recruited her for Louisville, I figure she got plenty of calls from coaches she is an elite player even if she will probably only play one more season. She will have two years of eligibility left, but sure WNBA will get her after next season unless of course the NIL comes in a big way somewhere. That has made it possible for some players to choose college over the Pros and use up their eligibility.

But when did she actually follow her?
as an aau player...who knows

People could look at my account and say I folllow "____"
But it may be that I never did clean that name out
If you have a ton of followers/follows,,,little chance of being able to do that

If the chemistry is so bad at Mississippi State it was causing "mental health issues" it seems like Tennessee would be an ideal place for Rickea to transfer to. This is some of the best chemistry I have ever seen on a team plus a national contender with players that actually get better every year.

.....as long as it doesn't cause us chemistry problems. Things are going really well and the players are playing for each other. There are a lot of factors to consider and I'm sure Kellie will evaluate the options and choose the best one for the team. Regardless of what happens, being in a toxic work environment can affect a players attitude and motivation and it can take time for a person to learn how to move on. I wish the best for Rickea as she goes through this change.
