Transfer Portal 22-23

Elite 8 PG's

Louisville - C. Carr, M Robinson, HVL - all under 5'8 (run point by committee)
Iowa - Clark 6'0

MD - Elisa Pinzan 5'8
SC - Z Cooke and K Fletcher - 5'9

VT - G Amoore - 5'6
OSU - No real point guard (which is what hurt them against VT imo) but Sheldon/McMahon are their distributors usually

LSU - A Morris/K Poole - 5'6
Miami - Cavinder Twins, and L Dwyer - 5'6

Size does not matter if it fits your offense, and they can play defense.

Don’t most of them have big time centers that can score? Because that’s not something we have, unless we find that in the portal.

Since you already have a commitment from Donarski ….. Oh wait …. Will she even visit?

There’s an old saying: “A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush !” Just saying
I’m just saying they should go after Donarski and Kiki Jefferson and if they strike out they can move on, don’t just settle for any player, we need top players to compete next year.

This 6 ft and up for guards is nonsense babble. Give me someone who can drive to the basket, dribble without turning it over and being able to weave around double teams/pressure, and can make a jump shot regardless of size. Like many above stated Wells and Amoore are prime examples.

This is build-a-bear team building, If I have a 5"6 PG, I want a longer limbed, lock down defender type at SG so we're not total mismatches defensively on the perimeter. That hurt us a few times this season. Why would you take two short ones with so many good ones available?

Agree with going after the better players ! But the lady from Belmont is a KNOWN QUANTITY….. Plus she could have two more years to play and she is from Tennessee!

I think most posters are aware that the portal is a game of recruiting in its own right ! Everyone will not get an offer but the better quality players will have multiple recruiters….. You have no time to waste and consider (what if)….

First they have to opt. In the portal and then is there any interest ? Will they visit ? Will they commit ? Or will they wait for another school to offer ? Many scenario’s and questions…. Kellie did good last year and I have confidence in her making our team better for next year and the future! JMO

Amoore is 5'6 and she killed us (and many others too). It is just not size but the overall skill set. And in the past, when the LVs had bigger guards, like Shekinna Stricklen, people complained that we needed smaller "waterbug" guards who had low centers of gravity and quicker first steps than is typical of bigger guards. So, the grass is always greener.
Armoore is different because she’s small but can run off screens and hit the 3 and also can create enough space to get her shot off, and also can pull up way beyond the line. I don’t just mean we need a bigger guard but they need to be productive as well. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to start 2 5’6 guards.

Yes I agree she would be a upgrade, I just don’t want her and Powell starting together, we still would need a Sg

The good thing with us is we need atleast 3 players that can start and have a chance for a final four run if we can get them.

This is behind a pay wall. Could anyone please give a summary?
Thanks!
Not exactly a Pulitzer worthy expose. Says a lack of speed and dependable 3 pt shooting on the perimeter really hurt us last season so we need 3 or 4 quicker guards. And better shooters. What everyone and their grandma who watched us play said.

I get what you mean, but in every recruit, there are strengths and weaknesses. It all comes down to need and what you can live with and what you can't. I was watching Clark with all her diagonal passes. Those are difficult against long-armed teams like a MD or SC. Boeheim at Syracuse recruited long arms (the rest of the body was just tossed in for obvious reasons) to play in his zone defense. Having said that foot positioning is just as important in playing solid defense. Beal is a perfect example. She crowds the feet and positions herself about a quarter step closer than most defenders. It places the offensive player's footwork off and they either can't achieve their desired balance or their takeoff power is diminished. Most defenders get hypnotized by the ball versus focusing on their position. Ball fakes rarely work on her.

I know-nothing about Wells. Her numbers and development look great etc...ESPN portal rankings contain some tidbits on players...they do mention her numbers against the top competitors they play..

"The Bruins' move to the Missouri Valley Conference from the Ohio Valley didn't slow down Wells at all. She got even better. She averaged a career-high 19.5 points per game and, more importantly, improved to a 45.5% 3-point shooter after making just 30.5% as a sophomore. Size is the biggest concern; Wells struggled against most of Belmont's top competition this season."

I should have communicated this a bit better. I was meant to say you don't take ONLY 6 ft guards. I actually agree with you. Long story short was just trying to say it shouldn't be ONLY 6 ft guards. Hence Wells Amoore and countless others.
