I listen all summer to “experts” say this is a bridge year for Tennessee to compete with Nico next yr. Idiots failed to look at what all will be gone and how few upperclassmen the roster will have in 2024. The ‘24 roster will reflect the reduced scholarships from 2021-2022 & disaster ‘21 recruiting class. Unless Vols hit portal big time, it will be a very young, but hopefully talented, team.

We're playing cornbread's recruit in the IOL. They wouldn't break the rotation at Vandy. But, they've been with Elerbee for 3 yrs and still javent improved.

The list of portal needs begins and ends with OL help. QB won't matter, WRs won't matter, and TEs won't matter if we can't block any better than what we have on the offensive line.

They better go out and spend big at those 5 positions on the line. There is no one currently on campus that can play at a passable level.

One has to wonder why in the absolute F wasn’t Mincey out there at right tackle in this game if we’re this bad on Oline and that’s your best option at RT. You want to punish him do it when we’re not playing a rival in a place we haven’t won in twenty years.

We need a LB, a couple of DB’s (preferably safeties), and 3 or 4 OL and a QB in the portal. Processing Hadden, Mcdonald, and letting Walker, and Lane leave as well will free the space up

The fact that Kamal Hadden is on the field tells me that cornerback is the number one position of need. Then I’d say center.

Process 30% of these guys out. Low level players. Maybe they’ll follow Tim Banks and Martinez to the MAC

Honestly, I’d try to get Mikel and that Navarro kid and that’s it this year for HS recruits.

Take 10 transfers

4 OL (2 OT, C and a guard)
1 LB
1 TE
1 DT
1 backup QB
2 guys in the secondary

Everything on the OL starts at center. They got spoiled by Carvin being able to slide over and the offense not miss a beat. They haven't recruited any true centers and we're paying for it with Copper being out. That's what we need from the portal. A stud at center.

^^This. Of all the positions, OL is one that's most dependent on "development". Kids from the HS ranks usually aren't nearly ready to go face to face with SEC DL. Even if they do have the size, they lack technique, experience and the strength/conditioning. It's usually a couple of years before an OL recruit is ready to step in. Yes, we've seen 5 stars pull it off here and other places, but it's not the norm. We'll need all the OL bodies we can lay hands on. I'd even look at guys down a level. Lots of those guys end up in the NFL, too. Guess beggars can't be choosy, but taking guys who weren't good enough to start at another D1 school hasn't worked out so well for us so far.
