Transfer Portal Thread

Lol at fans continuing on with this nonsense notion that our offense is outdated, we run the same motion offense that most every NBA/College runs in some variation or you consider Duke’s offense outdated too. You can argue that Rick didn’t have a lot of set plays but how much of that was hindered by new players and less practice time this year?
Seems like a really smart move by coaches wanting to add future NBA players to their roster to run an offense that resembles what the NBA teams run.
I just posted this in another thread. They mention Tennessee a couple times....

If you want to blame Barnes for no big men then you have a legitimate argument because I blame him for recruiting failures in the post.

It's a terrible take on offensive strategy. There was no outside-in or inside-out with this team because there were no post threats. The average threat we did have was hurt - Fulky. Pons was not a true post threat and anybody else didn't or couldn't help because they had no respect from the other team. And I'm not sure what you mean by inside out when we struggled to gain good post position. You assumption assumes the post player had the ball, could possibly score so the other team respected that but then kicked out good passes for plays just standing for an open 3 or to drive to carve up the defense.

The highlights from the 2019 team are like night and day when Grant could seal his guy. I don’t think that the offensive strategy is necessarily outdated. There may be some things to tweak, but that should always be the case.

Gonzaga is most likely going to win it as a low volume three point shooting team. Kispert shoots very well, but that’s about it. They have 3-4 projected draft picks, 2 have played at least 2 years, and Kispert is a senior who has greatly improved his shot. Timme is a dominating center.

I would submit (obviously) that we would be a better team if Johnson and Springer were fringe draft picks and came back with a solid post player. But they aren’t, so they will try to rework the roster.

I was watching a few of those videos last night, I enjoyed the channel thanks for posting.

With that being said, he also pointed out that a lot of times our spacing is absolutely awful compared to 5 out teams as well.

Yeah that’s because we dont play the 5 out. Which was fine when we had Grant and Admiral. There’s another video he did breaking down Pons game which I recommend. It gives some comparisons to how our offense executed during Grant/Admiral days and how Pons fit after they left. Basically we aren’t set up to run the same kind of offense.

I'll look at it in a bit. I went through a lot of the 5 out videos last night.

Exactly the ability for the post player to seal his defender and make himself an effective target is important. It was difficult for the wings to pass inside because many times no one was open. Two years ago our 3-4-5 could also pass for assists to each other.

Need better 3 pt shooting to run our offense. Otherwise teams just sit in the paint and block off all the effective elements of the motion offense
Those 5 out teams looked to have consistently sent cutters and curls to get people open breaking to the basket. I didn’t see that from Tennessee at all.

Saw him play in state tourney a few years ago for Clay County and was very impressed. Key has put up great career numbers at the MVC level so he has proven he is a legit college player. Would be good pickup, imo.

We do but they’re all in traffic because teams are content to just sag and force us to shoot 3s

No offense works when you can’t make shots. Some don’t get that

Interesting 3p% breakdown by year. 4th year was his worst by far but attempts per game werent wildly different in 3 vs 4.

His FT % makes me feel better about his shot. Difference in 3 pt % might just be the type of shots he was taking between his Jr and Sr year. Maybe his role changed and he was moreso *the guy" on this year's squad who was taking those last second 3pt attempts that have a low percentage of going in.

I like these highlights against Loyola.
