Thanks shirtless wiki-scholar. I think you missed the point.
You have a link to this?Smart’s failure has everything to do with Texas, and very little to do with Smart. Smart isn’t gimmicky. He’s just a smart, young, successful, independent black man. Texas isn’t evolved enough for that equation. I predict he’ll return to being successful at Marquette. Great example story: Two weeks of practice into year one Smart was asked to “consider” abandoning pressure D (his core philosophy).
A week later he was informed that the boosters and AD knew the conference, and they didn’t want “wild” defense because it wouldn’t work. He was given “notes” from boosters after every game. The AD visited practice, and talked directly to players about their play. The AD had private meetings with assistants to express their dissatisfaction. That place is a run by a bunch of white haired halfwits that equate their accidental oil wealth with intelligence. Supposedly Beard will have full authority. He didn’t leave 5mm a year to collaborate with a bunch of low grade Jerry Jones clones. Beard is a no-compromise tough coach who comes from the Bobby Knight tree. He’s an alum, he’s not scary to old white guys, and he’s a top five coach in getting return on talent. I’ll be surprised if Texas isn’t a regular contender almost immediately. I’ll be more surprised if Shaka fails at Marquette. He’s a very good coach.
Apologies. I took it the wrong way, and also mistook you for a recurring antagonist poster. Your account of the origin of the quote is accurate. Reagan was an actor, and he just flubbed a line.I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with your point, just pointing out the origin of the quote. Not sure why it was deserving of the insult. Actually didn't get it from wiki and also have a shirt on but if it makes you feel good to insult you do you.
Agree with everything you said. And Jmo, but I think he instituted more discipline at VCU than he did at Texas, or maybe the guys he brought in there just clicked better. But I watched a couple of their guys almost fight each other in the middle of a game a couple of times this past year. Never saw anything close to that at VCU.Shaka Smart was the basketball equivalent of Tom Herman in football. Texas, and the majority of the nation, believed they hired the hottest two names going at the time. Neither guy panned out, but both were highly desirable.
This would not be surprising at all. Just curious, but where did you hear all of this? I don't doubt that it's true, but I'm careful about taking things like this for gospel.Smart’s failure has everything to do with Texas, and very little to do with Smart. Smart isn’t gimmicky. That’s more of a symptom. The disease is the oil barrons who think they know what’s best for everyone and everything and the enablers in the AD who are desperate for their money. It really is all about "The Eyes of Texas" situation. You can look that up, but the boosters have a tremendous amount of influence.
I'm intrigued a little bit, although he was collectively pretty bad against the 3 best opponents on their schedule (Tennessee, Kansas, and Villanova), last year, and his 38% overall FG percentage leaves a lot to be desired.Tennessee has reached out, VQ saying they don’t see much coming from it but confirming Tennessee has at least inquired...
Jordan Hall College Stats | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com
Had a triple double last year (22/12/10) and had 3 games with double digit assists.
6’8” point forward, 11pts 6rbd 6ast last year as a freshman at St. Joe’s
Those were all in the first 5 games of his college career so maybe it took him some time to get into the groove of college basketball. He did pretty well against Nova though. He would have 3 years to adjust to the SEC anyway so I think this would be a big time pickup.I'm intrigued a little bit, although he was collectively pretty bad against the 3 best opponents on their schedule (Tennessee, Kansas, and Villanova), last year, and his 38% overall FG percentage leaves a lot to be desired.
4 years, nobody’s past year counted against eligibility so in theory he will be a freshman again. Those were all in the first 5 games of his college career so maybe it took him some time to get into the groove of college basketball. Yeah, which is why I said "collectively". Even against Nova, he was 6-15 shooting to get those 17 points which goes to his inefficiency shooting the ball, which is a trait that carried over throughout the season. Even Victor Bailey was more efficient. He had a great game against Nova, 17/6/6.
Yeah, I considered the fact that those were early season games and almost made mention of it, but as I said in my previous post, his shooting inefficiency carried on thru the season. Those were all in the first 5 games of his college career so maybe it took him some time to get into the groove of college basketball. Gotcha...yea shooting numbers aren’t very good, 3pt% is decent at 35% but looks like he probably took a few too many and wasn’t good from 2, curious if he was taking a lot of jumpers or what. Definitely a unique skill set which is why I would venture to guess that staff reached out, bit of a unicorn as far as common type of players go, will be interesting to follow to see how hard they pursue, if at all.Yeah, which is why I said "collectively". Like I said, I'm intrigued by the skillset at his size. We don't really have a player like him. Justin Powell is the closest match, though a couple inches shorter, and perhaps they are so much alike that it keeps things from getting too serious between Hall and Tennessee as VQ seemed to indicate.
6’11” with 7’6” wingspan, 1 year of eligibility...I wonder if Tennessee reaches out.
“16.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.5 blocks”
Was just getting ready to mention him. Plays for Shawnee State up here in my area. Really good player at this level (NAIA). Tennessee would seem to offer a big stage and he’d be a guy who wouldn’t necessarily command 25 mpg.
475 career blocks in 116 career games (4.1 per game).
For real... Dude slammed it 4 times in a row then caught a block haha... Major want but maybe headed to Ohio State if he wants to stay close to himI stopped watching at 2 minutes, I saw enough, WANT.
I know people are going to point to competition, and that’s totally fair, but he’s doing stuff in game that a lot of players his size can’t do against air.
