Transfers: Someone please explain...

Big ole O lineman from aTm named Shanahan is making a visit, I just read. 6'3", 330 lbs. Also, character and fitting the culture CJH has instilled is important to this staff. That narrows the field quite a bit, I would imagine.

he scheduled to visit but then cancelled. Don't think he is coming unless something changes

Sounded like Moe was here for a while this weekend will have to discuss things with his agent. Thompson (the Northwestern OG/OT) will be here Tuesday unless that’s changed. Feel like we at least add one olineman.

We’ve talked to a couple of interior dlinemen and one wr it sounds like as well.

At this point they might as well drop the whole "student athlete" facade, eliminate the academic requirements, and make the players contract employees of the university. I do not believe for one second these guys are getting a true education. How can they be? You ever notice, you NEVER hear about any of these players struggling with eligibility because of grades anymore. I seriously doubt it's because players have gotten smarter over the years.
I was thinking these very same thoughts this morning. You NEVER hear about a player becoming academically ineligible, or taking extra summer classes to qualify, etc. When I was being recruited in high school, I was one of only two players in my entire conference eligible for the ACC because of their higher academic requirements that required 2 yrs of foreign language. Meanwhile, I had 2 teammates sign with the Vols, 3 more with Virginia Tech, and another with South Carolina. 3 of those 6 lasted less than 2 yrs due to academic issues. I admire the kids these days that take their education seriously when that's apparently no longer a requirement. There's just too much money to be made from these kids to disqualify them academically, apparently.

If you'll note.. none of the teams in the playoffs are making big portal moves right now.. because they are prepping for the playoffs. The teams with Byes might have some free time but teams playing this weekend are full-on game planning.

...why we are not attracting much interest from some of the good players in the portal? I know a better NIL deal is the driving force for many top players, while perhaps playing time is a major consideration for guys buried somewhere on a depth chart. It seems we've lost some quality depth to the portal but have yet to replace any with incoming transfers. Just saw that TAMU just added 5 players in 24 hrs, and Ole Miss is at it again this year as an option for several good players. Has our NIL collective committed so much to guys like Nico and Sanders that we can't afford to shell out for some of these guys shopping around? It just seems that we're never mentioned as a possible landing spot whenever a big name hits the portal. I would love to hear some good analysis from some of our more NIL savvy guys here. I know everyone is focused on Columbus this weekend and not paying much attention to portal additions. Is there a simple explanation I'm missing?
Our portal gets have been very effective and at times splashy too. Each coach has their own style and Huepel does not seem to be 'all out portal guy' like Lane Kiffin and Miami. He seems content getting help where need is. Obviously you are not going to land them all but just last year he landed Heard, Jermod McCoy, Chris Brazell, Jaxson Moi, Hoden Staesman, Kitselman etc. All either big names out of portal or highly effective contributors. Not sure where your observation is coming from.

It has nothing to do with prep for OSU. Our staff walks and chews gum all the time.

Our program is finally at the point that despite what the arm chair QB’s THINK, we aren’t desperate anymore.
we have some plans that aren’t big time, that we will fill in the portal. Shocking I know but our staff DOES actually develop, has a plan, knows what’s coming up, and isn’t every year getting “caught” with their pants down like most CFB programs.

So for most clamoring chill TF OUT. Learn to trust a staff that knows what they’re doing.

If you “know” we “have to sign this guy!” Go have a beer and pet your dog. You “know that” based on 2.8% of available info.

On message boards we are having fun. We don’t know jack 💩.

Do I want another WR? Yes. Should we get one? Idk.

Do I want a RB and think it’s obvious we should get one? Yes! Will we? IDK!!! 😂

Here’s the real game breaker…it’s gonna be hard for many here to swallow…

Heupel and his staff…ACTUALLY know more than you do.

One more time…

You’re ignorant…

They smart…

Now carry on with our fun as full time employees of jobs with other things more important but with our free time jumping on here spouting off stuff to make us feel smart and “big fans.”

We don’t know JACK 💩

I was coming here to post something very similar. There isn't as much portal action this year because we have fewer holes to fill thanks, in part, to how well we've done the last few years in the portal. High School recruiting has been going very well too. Any time you stack top 10 classes you're doing well, especially when you can plug any holes in your roster with elite portal transfers.

It's almost like things are going too well and people are just looking for something to be worried about. Just relax and enjoy this ride. It doesn't mean as much as you think it does anyway.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! All the talk and convoluted ideas really boil down to this. Amateurism in college football and basketball have been gone for a while now but now it’s really extinct and ain’t coming back. Everybody has a choice. Deal with it or find other interests.

Terrible model for college sports
It’s a terrible model for professional sports. Contracts and salaries prohibit this nonsense.

You are NOT even close to seeing how bad it is going to get.
Just around the corner, the Rick Kidz are going to start buying into this NFL Minor League.
They have already had discussions with Universities about buying their Football Teams. And you think any of these Institutes of Higher Learning is going to turn down the money. It is going to even get crazier!!

You would think Phil Knight has already bought Oregon, so we're not far from that already.

Ole Miss builds their roster every year through the portal, which is likely because they are at a huge disadvantage recruiting high schools against George, Bama, LSU, Tennessee etc. Tennessee likes to recruit from high school and develop and uses the portal to adress needs.
Still didn’t make the playoffs

I looked at the ON3 site the other day. looked at maybe 20 pages. we had 4 or 5 leaving us. not one slated to transfer to Tennessee.

Every year, we start the portal season slow. Every year our fans panic over it. Every year, Tennessee gets the portal haul it needs. Wash, rinse, repeat. Fans never learn.

I’ll go ahead and warn y’all…this will be the smallest portal haul of the Heupel era. That’s a good thing. It means we don’t have as many holes on the roster to fill.

yep. This is coming. You'll have investment firms owning football teams and then pennies will start getting pinched to squeeze as much profit as possible. They will run College Football Teams the same way these megacorporations are run.

I’m hearing the Jr. college guys might be getting a couple more years of eligibility. If this happens a whole new can of worms will be opened.
