Refs often choke at the end of close games. They would rather let something go than risk being wrong about a potential game-altering whistle.
I hate complaining about officiating, but how long can you say "it shouldn't have come down to that anyway"? We very well may have won a couple more games this season if refs didn't choke, but maybe not. Either way, the quality of officiating in every sport has been declining over the past 5 years.
