Travis Stephens

Any young Vol fans that haven't seen him run should look him up. Literally a man possessed that ran like his life depended on getting yardage. No matter how big the defender or how much weight he was giving up it seemed like he always fell forward for yards. Not a huge guy but he always was the biggest man on the field.

Don't forget the 2001 Arkansas game. Stephens had 41 carries for 206 yards and a TD. He pretty much put the entire offense on his back in an amazing effort.

This was one of my all time favorites too. Watched it over way too many beers at my brothers house. He was wearing a shirt with Neylands maxims on it, he took a sharpie and wrote, "#8 knock 'em on their a$$ and give it to Stephens" on it. It was his good luck shirt for years.

Thanks Travis for that beautiful night in the swamp. I found myself on the 50 yard line in the middle of a swamp of baby Gators. And then the 4th qrtr Da Man started pounding the Rock breaking off 10 and 20 yards on every touch. It was a beautiful site.

With all my efforts to stay unnoticed I unknowingly found my self cheering under my breath. From my perch it was so quiet you could here a pin drop.... I was spotted. These hungry Gators started eyeing me with anger and disgust. They pointed at the Gator logo on my Polo and asked what's with this. I proudly told them that I was a Volunteer in disguise and "When in Rome do as the Romans do".

The shock and awe on their faces was priceless.

Thanks Travis for the memories and Happy Birthday.

By the end of the game Grossman's pants were grass green and Clausen looked like he just came out of the locker room.

This guy always represented what it means to be a Tennessee Volunteer. Instate guy stuck behind superstar RBs but instead of transferring or being a cancer in the locker room he rolled up his sleeves and worked. He worked his butt off to be ready when opportunity came knocking. And he was ready.

That Florida game is one of my favorite individual performances.

Reminds me of my other favorite Vol-Tony Thompson.

Travis thank you for this moment. The ending was heartbreaking but I will never forget this play.

Georgia vs. #6 Tennessee 2001 - YouTube

Oh was it ever heartbreaking - I sat there in silence for at least 15 minutes --- then that L in the SEC title game cost a NC game --- but yes I really miss those long runs for TDs like Travis S had that day.
