Tressel Sits Himself (In Flailing Attempt to Prevent Inevitable)

Not surprisingly, most fans here seem to think it's a classy move instead of an effort to save himself.

I'm pissed that our fans are trying to run Pearl out on a rail, and that the NCAA is supposedly going to give him a one-year suspension--and meantime Calhoun at Ct. and Tressel gets slaps on the wrist. Tressel has to ask OSU to suspend him more than the two games the school decided! That's comical. There is no consistency to these punishments, and that's a major problem. Hell, Pearl has already been suspended for eight SEC games. If Hammy lets UT get abused, we should all raise hell.

No ruling has been made in UT's case, or in regards to Tressel as of yet. All speculation. The NCAA could very well hammer Tressel too. They are under a mighty large microscope right now.

yah. Tressel probably saved his self with that. Smart but pretty typical. Even more typical for the reason he gave. What a clown. I hope Nebraska rolls tOSU when he returns.

They only do this when thy know they got big trouble coming. Wonder if it will just upset the ncaa. But no way they hammer pearl and not hammer tressel. The ncaa should be looked at for their ethics and somebody should look at their practices.

You do realize that the NCAA and the school are two separate entities, right?

Tressel will get his.

Perhaps I'm simply naive, but I was very disappointed in CJT when all this stuff came out and when he wouldn't sit the players for the bowl game. I always liked him.

Fans didn't run anyone out of town. Wounds are self inflicted and the NCAA has come to town.

If the NCAA follows it's normal path, once they start digging around they are free to look at everything. Hence Pearl getting caught up in the CLK firestorm, CJT may think he can avoid the microscope by sitting on his own.

Pearl got caught in his own firestorm

Tressel is screwed as well.

Tressel should be screwed. He lied in a signed statement to the NCAA. In that sense his situation is exactly like Pearl's. If he isn't forced out like Pearl... oh well, there's nothing to say. NCAA is a joke already, and nothing will change. It's really too bad college sports are entertaining.

I've argued on here that OSU fans are more delusional than Tennessee fans. After seeing UT fans respond to the Pearl situation and seeing the OSU fans respond to the Tressel situation, I'm probably more confident about that assertion than I was before.
