Tressell vs. Petrino

Can someone tell me why in the eyes of many football fans, Petrino's indescretions are more forgiveable than Tressell's?

I personally could stand Tressell much more than Petrino. But I would like some other views...thanks

The biggest reason is Tressel violated NCAA rules, Petrino didn't really break any rules.

Tressel brings a 5 game suspention.
Petrino has nothing.

Tressel has a show cause
Petrino does not

Tressel gets beat by SEC teams
Petrino does not

Petrino can win in the SEC...Tressel has only beaten ONE SEC team...Petrino's hogs...That said Petrino is a great hire for whoever gets him...He will turn whoever gets him around quickly...Sadly I doubt We go after him at all...Got a great coach out there that made a mistake and now he is right in front of us and We refuse to go after him....Damn

Football games aren't won in the bedroom, under a desk or in the pulpit and I don't care who my football coach sleeps with because it's his personal life not his professional life.

Games are won in the lockerroom , practice field and hopefully on the hallowed ground of Neyland.. I personally think Petrino and his experience in the SEC and success gives him a HUGE edge. Sweater vest didn't fair that well from my memory of BCS encounters with the SEC.

Petrino didn't break rules. He broke LAWS.

Petrino would not play well in a recruit's living room. Don't think momma's are going to want to send their babies off to learn under a man like him. Women are funny about such things. Tressel has been bad news for every program he has been at. I don't want either one.

Exactly, there isn't. Petrino is a winning coach who brings no NCAA penalties. I'm sorry if the fans want a great dude instead of a proven winner but college football is about wins and Petrino is the best option.

The thing that always strikes me as funny on this forum about the coaching search is the fact that people think there are perfect people who can win and recruit great, not to mention lead the church choir, teach some boy scouts, win a national championship, be a VFL, etc, etc, etc. Look, we got Petrino, he can win, which sells tickets, gets fans excited, puts us back to national prominance. The logic of people amazes me about a sure fire hire when we are lower than we have been in decades.

college coaching records, per Wiki, are actually similar

Tressel - 73.8
Petrino - 74.3

The question primarily was on how people are more forgiving of Petrino (if he broke laws and lied about it) than Tressel (who broke rules and lied about it)

Why are people more forgiving of Petrino?

The university doesn't face penalties with Petrino.

Fellas I think he has learned to not repeat that mistake... I think in that category everyone is concerned about he would be quite as a church mouse..

Thats cute and all, but you can't just dismiss it like that.

No employer is going to ignore the past of a job candidate that lied to his last boss and exposed his previous employer to legal issues.

I apologize, but I stand by my opinion that he would win. And to be honest, I wasn't aware of any sanctions that could come down as of late. If he brings more NCAA heat fine, but I haven't heard it as anything that could happen.

I don't think there's ever been a question about NCAA sanctions. It's all liability issues. There's the mistress that has a potential sexual harassment case and there are all the applicants that got passed over for a job that was given to the mistress.

OK fine, let me put it like this:
I think Bobby Petrino is the best coach, the cheapest also, that is realistically available right now. How do you feel about that?
