Trey Smith out for Spring Practice

Great news from Hubbs! The positive to this situation is that the other guys will get much needed extra reps.

The Mays sour grapes needs to end. Trying to bash the guy is just lame. So what if he got occasionaly beaten by smaller guys. I would say Smith did as well sometime in his career. It has zero to do with what he will accomplish at the collegiate level.

VN isn't Trying, they are doing, and it doesn't appear it was occasional, it appears it was often.

Hopefully he won't suck but the jury is still out.

I think the voodoo/juju stuff is being brought up facetiously (I hope), but someone should point out that the decline of the football program started when Fulmer turned in Alabama for cheating and then couldn't set foot in the state for a certain time without receiving a summons. Causation? No. Should he have done it? Probably I suppose. But we have been spiraling downward since. Butch's 9-4's don't count; they both should have been so much more.

So your conspiracy theory >> Jobu? You in big trouble.

I heard irregular heartbeat that can be monitored and corrected. Where did blood clotting come from?

I'm no expert, but I would think that a blood clotting issue that required a blood thinner would be career ending because of the problems with bruising and potential internal or brain bleeds from the violent collisions.

I thought I heard that it was something that showed up in practice. A heart irregularity would make for sense in that case. All speculation, just praying that he can be healthy and continue his career.

Sometimes the irregular beat spawns clots, if I recall correctly. Sounds like they ran on thinners until they fixed it. Now they just have to make sure the fix worked.

At least that is a scenario match from folks I know.

I've had an irregular heartbeat for 30 years. I was put on medication and that has taken care of it. I was a runner at the time and have never stopped although age has shortened the distance. An untreated irregular heartbeat can lead to blood clots which can lead to a stroke. If this is what Trey has once the treatment is determined it should not affect any aspect of his life. He may have to be on medication for his lifetime but side effects are minimal.

I just hope the big guy recovers for his sake, whatever the condition is. His health is first and foremost the important thing.
Now as far as the team goes,if his and just a few more happen then get healed up we will be alright. Just do not need the multiple injuries like the last few years happen or its gonna get ugly again.

From posters on the pay sites.
But they were posting about it before the story broke so they obviously knew something. The first to post about it apparently knows the family. And he was saying Smith's career was possibly over.

With advances in medical technology, teams can pick up on serious issues, defects and conditions through physicals and check-ups.

Just to draw a comparison, Florida has lost three players in recent history. Rod Johnson was an NFL caliber o-lineman who had a narrowing of the spine which made him susceptible to paralysis if he continued his career. He was a proven SEC player and starter at Florida. Two others; WR James Robinson and DB Randy Russell, both promising 4-Star Freshmen, lost their careers due to heart conditions before ever seeing the field.

Hoping for best for Smith, it would be awful for him personally because I know he loves football.

If it is an arrhythmia it is likely atrial fib. The dangers associated with it are sudden uncontrolled rate or development of clots around the valves. This becomes problematic if the rhythm goes in and out of the fibrillation

It's also controlled medicinally and with surgery. Not sure how playing and being on a blood thinner would work. He is young for a-fub though. Could be PVCs which I have also had since childhood.

A-fib is an electrical short that may or may not reset. My longest stint was nearly 24 hours before it reset itself. During that period you are highly susceptible to clotting due to the blood pooling in the cavities in your heart. I go in and out quite a bit but am on a thinner so no worries currently.

Unlikely to be svt or just pvcs as the atrial impulse is still in place. It is with fib that the clots can form but this is all just speculation. Whatever it turns out to be I sincerely hope he can be helped whether he plays another snap or not.

Don't forget Jack Jones. If you take Hall, Jones and Smith, that's a pretty formidable core line.
Jones's fate is already known. Still waiting on the other two.

Niehaus and Calbert are also out for Spring.

I hope Smith can return, but the most important thing is whatever the issue it can be resolved and live a full life. The kids health is more important than our football team.

American Trey Smith. Volquest was the first to report the Jackson, Tennessee native would miss spring due to some recent health issues. Pruitt confirmed that Smith will be out for spring, but didn't dive to deep into any speculation about where things stand with the anchor of the offensive line.

"Trey's had some personal health issues," Pruitt said. "Just getting some information and there isn't a whole lot of information yet, but we will know more going forward."

Pruitt confirmed that his sophomore lineman hasn't been completely shut down due to the health issues.

"Like Thursday, he was in there working out."

It's obviously a positive sign that Smith is still going through off-season conditioning with his team.

A brief update on Trey Smith’s health, as Jeremy Pruitt confirmed @Volquest_Rivals report that the All-American OL will miss spring practice. However, Smith was able to participate in a workout Thursday, per Pruitt. Has to be seen as good news for Smith, Vols.

Seems like a lot of people (media/friends) are respecting the privacy the family asked for. It is good to see that in today's world. I'm hoping for the best!

That is great news. The fact that he is workng out almost eliminates the blood clot theory.
