Trey Smith Out

Unfortunately, that’ll be it as far as football career is concerned. Having PE’s for a second time all but guarantees he’ll be on anticoagulants for the rest of his life

Hate to say it but the big fella needs to consider retiring from football. If I’m not mistaken this is what Chris Bosh has gone through and it’s cost him the rest of his prime. It’s not worth chasing your dream if it costs you your life. Get a free ride through college and put that education to good use. Sometimes things are just not meant to be.

His playing career is over. Recurrent blood clots, especially lung, mean the end to any football career as a player. That being said, I would keep him on scholarship and make him a grad assistant as soon as he graduates. He could go into the coaching profession and make a major impact on young men’s lives. I feel for Trey but in the end this may be a blessing in disguise.

My older sister died in 2010 after a long struggle with cancer of the thymus gland (located between the lungs)... She was cancer free at the end but couldn't breathe. Ultimately, it was a blood clot in her lung that moved to her heart which killed her. He has a hard fight ahead.

We are just such a cursed program. No other way to explain the amount of bad breaks we get. When we finally get a top player...they almost always end up getting hurt or something crazy. We should have Andrew butcher right now anchoring the line. He was a TN bred and top recruit. Drew Richmond was a 5 star and is dangerously close the the dreaded word (bust). We just have so much bad luck. It's unbelievable

Very sorry to hear this for the young man. Probably out for this season, and may not return at all, but needs to do what is best for his health. Hope he can keep his spirits up, maybe they can give him a student coaching position or something like that. Wish him the best. Hope the other players dedicate the remaining games to him and give it their best.

Mr Smith, I pray that you will be able to live a healthy and long life. If able and at your desire, I hope to see you line up for our beloved young men in orange once again. Thank you for choosing the Volunteers to give your all when you had every opportunity to play anywhere in the country. You make our state proud. Thank you and God's speed.

Keep you're head up big man, Volnation is praying for you to make a full recovery, getting you're degree and representing our University through your education and career!

We'll rush for under 20 yards now.....
Bad statement from someone who just doesn't get it. Also applies to those who liked this post. Football isn't the most important issue when a player is faced with a potential life changing condition. Having dealt with blood clots myself, not the time.

Not the time for what? To discuss football on a football message board? Everyone feels bad for the kid and wishes nothing but the best for the young man... talking about how it’s going to affect the team has no consequences to the young mans health, nothing you say on this message board is going to affect him one way or the other. The only people being classless are folks like you who want to be internet tough guys and tell people this isn’t the time to discuss football... I for one hope nothing but the best for the young man in all his future endeavors but I’ll also talk football on the football message board if I please, if you don’t like it feel free to give me another lesson in being a complete pompous douchebag.

Same thing that caused them in both my wives. Genetic predisposition. He should have a long healthy life...just needs to give up the risky physical toll. He gave it a shot...them reoccurring so soon is a stop sign.
Seeing that it is very rare and you had not only one, but two wives that had this, maybe they weren't looking at the right cause.........just sayin.

It's expected. Much like the JG argument, it you don't say something that is exactly to everyone's liking, you are being a hater.
