Who cares what we rush for. The young mans health is more important than any game or numbers
We all get your point but with all respect I think Trey Smith cares what we rush for. He risked his health and even his life to battle his way back onto that field. Given what that demonstrates about his character I’d guess he’d give just about anything to come back again. So for his sake yes it matters what we rush for. I’m sure he’ll be pulling harder than any of us from the sidelines for his Vols. Be blessed Trey!!

A person can be concerned about both issues. No one discussing the effect on UT football wishes anything but the best for Trey health-wise. Losing him is a concern when it comes to Saturdays game no matter how it happened

Dear Trey Smith,

I am assuming that due to the amount of rest you will likely be getting, you may read a thing or two about UT Football. If so, I just wanted to say thanks for your dedication to your teammates and everyone involved with UT Football over what has been a difficult time in our history. You have absolutely earned the title Vol For Life, and you will always be remembered fondly by the millions of fans in orange. We loved watching you play, and hope to see you on the field again. Life isn't always fair, but if you take the same attitude you brought to the field every day into every chapter of your life, you will be just as successful at that as you were as a player. Good luck in your future young man, you absolutely have the talent to play football at the next level, but even if that dream has to change, make sure this isn't the last time we hear the name Trey Smith associated with great things.

This absolutely sucks. I bet he doesn't play football again.

When they found the clots in February, he ceased all football activity for 6 months and went on anticoagulants. When he came back in August for football activities, I'm assuming you can't take the anticoagulants and play, so I'm assuming he was off the medication. If he's been off the medication and they've returned, that absolutely sucks. I'm no doctor but blood clots seem like something that can be managed and treated with no impact to his quality of life, but football could be over for him.

You are correct. Cannot play football while receiving anticoagulants + a while longer while the patient’s clotting factors and bleed times return to normal.

This is bad news all around, and would recommend football be over for Trey. Life is more important than football. I really hate to hear this about him. My son has had a couple classes with Trey, and speaks very highly about Trey. Trey has been a great ambassador for the university as well. One of those times where you just do not know why bad things happen to good people.

Stay strong, Trey. Get your education. Follow the doctor’s orders. You will have an incredible life. I can tell that by who you have been and how you have faced adversity. Prayers to you.

I really hate that for him. He certainly appeared to be working hard to get better and it's been pretty obvious that he loves to compete. I hope they are able to get him cleared up soon. God bless him.

So glad there are great doctors who worked & trained their whole lives to help people like Trey & countless others. So much respect for them! Get well soon, Trey!

Heart goes out to him.

Honest question though, who is our next tackle up? No idea... Was praying this would never happen.

We'll rush for under 20 yards now.....
Who cares for how many yards we rush when a young VFL's life is in danger? I'd gladly give up the rest of the season to ensure Trey's safety. I hate having to replace him, but next man up is always the business in the football world. Best wishes to Trey for a positive outlook. Hopefully he can get back one of these days.

His football career is likely over, which is disappointing considering how talented he is. But I think that there is a silver lining here, I am certain he is getting the best medical care to be had in Knoxville. I also doubt he will get his scholarship revoked, I don't think Pruitt or Fulmer would do that. So not only is he getting great medical care but he is getting a quality education as well. I am also willing to bet that there is a vol fan out there that will not hesitate to hire him when he graduates. It sucks that his football career is over, but I think he will be alright.
