Like him, lump him or leave him Trooper was universally loved by players as a players coach. That may have been the tacos and cash he was handing out but IIRC even the Berry bros were slightly interested in Auburn when he was there and I doubt that had anything to do with bags.

Trooper got results. Two 1000 yard rushers in the same season with Houston and Riggs. And then turned around a dissapointing receiving corp.
Also recruited hard.

Apparently was playing in the gray areas too much at Auburn but no penalties or sanctions. Who can blame him with what they get away with on the plains. I didn't know he was there. Actually gives me a little concern.

I never did like the guy myself. I didn't think he was that good of a assistant coach. The only thing he was good at was giving chest bumps.

I'm in complete agreement! When he was our RB coach they really sucked! All he was good for was grabbing attention for chest bumping and getting injured!

It's hard for me to see how we did end up with two 1000 yard rushers when they both seemed to run to get tackled. I guess it's like they say pass to open the run!

The guy splintered the team while angling for the oc job. He's now a position coach in the sun belt which speaks volumes

His son Blaise is a freshman at ArkSt. It does seem a bit odd that he's mostly 3-star (a couple of 2-stars) at 5'7" 159 lbs. and his only offers according to ESPN were from ArkSt, Memphis, Nebraska and UT.

He didn't go with Gus to Arkansas State. He took some time off from coaching and this is his first year at Arkansas State.

This. He took last year off is all though. When Chizik and staff were let go after the 2012 season he lost his job and Gus didn't hire him back last year when he took the AU job.

And then when he coached WR he coached one of the most explosive units we've had in my lifetime.

Edit: Make it a good one, or you're dead to me before you even get started. :)

His position groups excelled both here and at ok st. Clearly we would have been better off with him as oc than clawson

I think UT offered because of son of former Vol player / coach...don;t think we were ever seriously interested...unless it was Dooley and he probably offered to get Troop on staff.

let's not start the LOOOOOOOOOOONG list of oflks who have made a better OC than Clawson. :)

He wears his hat backwards to show respect to his father who came into their rooms(12 kids I think) where they all slept on bunk beds. He turned his hat around so he could kiss them all goodnight!!!

You literally have no idea how good or bad assistant coaches are. Makes me chuckle to hear fans talk about coaching when they aren't there everyday to see what goes on at practice, meetings, etc. He coached D1 football in the sec at one of the top programs in the sport. Chances are he was a pretty good coach. Just saying.
