TROOPER

we didn't have a receiver over 500yds receiving which looking at our core bothers me......too many people calling for the ball and not wanting just to win......or maybe RS needs to step up and not be Phil's YES MAN......

IMO one of the high points this season was the way Ainge and Clausen spread the ball out.

For the record I thought CPF and RS did a great job!

I think the one thing that kept us going, at least early, was the stark contrast between Ainge and Schaeffer. Schaeffer had his Vick-like moments when the rest of the team could afford him those, and if Ainge got a good look, it was a no-questions-asked first down. No team could ever prepare for an offense like that -- Auburn won simply because of the immense level of talent they had.

we played with heart this year. i was really hoping like only a one loss team but ainge and schaffer got hurt and we lost to notre dame and i guess i was asking to much for us to beat auburn. but a 10 win season is great. now if we can only duplicate the heart we had last year with the talent we have this year we can go along way.

That fact has been well-established all year. Our defense was just all-around terrible with fundamentals.

all vol fans should push for troop to get the position. he is an incredible motivator and by the looks of it knows a little about coaching.

Here is what i think we should do. We should give Randy Sanders 1 more year. With all the talent coming back their is no way he could screw it up. If he does, fire him and let Trooper take over OC!!

I think almost losing to Vandy AND Kentucky should raise some eyebrows. It makes us look horrible and that's why we don't get any respect. I love Trooper. Always have. He should get the job.

I think Randy probably calls 95% of the plays, but you can bet that Phil listens very intently on 3rd down and in the red zone.  That headset is not for show.

The calls the plays Phil told him to call

Yeah, our offenses were fine those games...

at Vanderbilt

Points: 38
Total yards: 425
Rush yards: 236
Pass yards: 189
First downs: 20
3rd down: 10-16
Turnovers: 2

vs. Kentucky

Points: 37
Total yards: 606
Rush yards: 204
Pass yards: 218
First downs: 34
3rd down: 9-16
Turnovers: 2

That's more than adequate offense to beat both of those teams... With those stats there's NO WAY IN HELL the offense could have let those games be that close.

this is a really stupid thread, in my opinion.

Especially less than a month after ending a 10 win season by blowing out a ranked opponent in a bowl game.

I would be surprised that anyone who would want RS to leave has any coaching experience on the college level. I would like to hear from some of those, especially if they are successfull college coaches. Tennessee has a successful program year in and year out. Tennessee is the model of stability and success. They are an NFL factory. No one with a brain would throw a wrench in there.

does everyone feel the same about chavis and slade?

some people conisder them the best at their positions but tennessee seems to always be racking up missed tackles and huge 3rd down plays.

would anyone like to see someone else at defensive cordinator or defensive back coach?

Our players first and foremost need a leader at OC. Someone they respect. As good a coach Bill B. is up in New England. They have huge leaders in Romeo as the DC on Defense and Charlie Weis on O. 2 respected guys who are getting their shots at coaching next year.....do you think its a coincidence that no one in the country wants randy as a head coach? Even with all the talent we have. Chavis is getting offers all the time some we know of and some we probably never hear of. The reason a strong presence at OC would be huge is that it would help our kids show up. Its no secret that our Vols have a bad habit of showing up for the big games then getting beat or coming out by the skin of our teeth against small teams last year like Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina. We're expected to beat those teams and we barely win those. I'm one of those people that doesn't like randy not because of any bias against him but because I think he isnt qualified to be the OC for a top team in the nation.

until we have a 6 and 5 season RC is not going anywhere and then maybe.... in response to chavis and slade IMO our secondary problems where from lack of experience and depth and I personally hope the chief stays for a long time

You got it Volmanjr. I think it would take a couple of 6,7 win seasons before you'd see any changes.

What is up with everybody taking it upon themselves to grade out the coaching staff?? Can you imagine being in a profession where your job performance was constantly scrutinized anonymously by people with no credentials whatsoever?

well that's why they pay em the big bucks, I just can't see bitchin about a 10 win season with freshmen QBs and all the injuries on top of the bama scandals geeze louise, I think from a coaching staff standpoint we're in pretty good shape, wouldn't trade places with many teams but here I go again beating the dead horse!

That horse will never die . . . It's not the bashing that I object to. It's when it becomes so obvious that the basher has no earthly idea what he is criticizing and obviously believes you can coach a football team as if you were playing Nintendo.

I must admit, NCAA Football 2005 makes me feel like a coach. Wearing my headphones, my whistle around my neck and keeping my clipboard close also help.

1) If the recruits did not respect RS they would not be coming to Tennessee.

2) Kentucky expressed interest in RS privately a couple of seasons ago.... the same season that Norm Chow turned Kentucky down.

3) How long have you been following Tennessee football? There were a few close calls when Cutcliffe was OC (remember Memphis?) as there have been throughout Tennessee football history.

4) Until the Tennessee offense really sputters, I don't think that anyone could qualify a statement like RS doesn't deserve to be OC at Tennessee.

I for one have always thought that balance was the key to winning football games.
Why don't we get off Randy's back and enjoy what he has done.

Those two 1000 yard rushers were possible by the plays RS called. In the SECG the long runs were because of adjustments RS made to something he saw on the field.

No 500 yrd recievers, yes your right we threw for 2775 yards to 13 different players it is alot harder to stop 13 than a couple. 11 different players cought a touchdown pass.

This year we rushed for a 2667 yrds with a net of 2448 and passed for 2775 folks that is balance.

RS did all this with two freshmen Qaurterbacks and a third string that many thought should have been fourth behind CJ.

Before we through randy under the bus lets not forget that this is the first team in years that played as a "TEAM". Why not give him time to let these young quarterbacks time to learn more than half the offense so you can see what he can do.

I thought Randy Saneders should have one the Co-Ordinator of the year for what he was able to do this year.

Nobody thought that we would win 10 games and play for a Conference Championship.

If I am not mistaken the first game RS was the OC was when we one the National Championship.
