2000 troops is what is filling the vacuum? I know we are good, but 2000 to occupy a whole country?

We provided the fire suppor, route clearance, air support, etc from fire bases while the Kurds and the rebels did the fights.

Trump's tweet insisting that Russia, Iran and Syria wouldn't be happy with our troop withdrawal is just plain comical... Who does he think he is kidding? And what kind of leader announces a major strategic foreign policy decision like this on social media? ... completely catching his Department of Defense by surprise?

Anyone want to object to leaving a nation we've had troops in for the past 17 years with no clear objective or end in sight?

Aren't we preventing ISIS from proliferating?

if we leave and they are able to open up shop again, isn't that bad? It seems counter to what we'd want.

Been hashed over in the other thread with a similar problem as here--if U.S. leaves completely it has no control what happens in a turbulent area.

You talking about the Stan or Syria?

Same feeling applies to both in my case.

I'm not entirely positive we have any control as it is.

Should we just give Israel a few billion more and farm out all the Middle East housekeeping duties to it?

Considering we send 3.8 billion a year for the next 10 years...that’s 10 million dollars a day of American taxpayer money....let that soak in..

Been a strange couple of days... something doesn't seem right. Pure chaos.

Officials throughout the Trump administration are bracing themselves for the President to make an announcement about the US presence in Afghanistan, similar to his declaration Wednesday that the US will withdraw the military from Syria, informed administration sources tell CNN.
The sources cautioned that President has not yet made a final decision, but officials are concerned and convinced that he might do so, and soon.
