A huge wall on the southern border from the Pacific to the Gulf might be a good way to substantially cut down on the number of illegal aliens. And the next best way is to change the laws on asylum. I’d wager that either one of those more than likely would have prevented this tragedy and many more just like it. And if they start getting on boats and going to Canada to come across the northern border, we build a wall up there too.

The reality is that an illegal immigrant beat a baby to death and it could have absolutely been prevented if he had been prevented reentry into the country. You're straining gnats in order to sidestep that conversation.
