Trump returning to social media with 'his own platform' in 2-3 months: adviser

I’d be surprised if the platform has been developed yet. There will be an initial surge of users so the smart thing to do will be to work out the easy kinks before rolling it out.
Oh, I was under the impression it launched today. Just heard a blip about it on the radio earlier.

As I understand, it won't go public until sometime next year - will be tested this year under an invitation only basis.

The public offering of sorts for the media company is what hit today.

The Special Purpose Acquisition Company (DWAC) began trading on public equity markets on Thursday. The SPAC merged with Trump’s privately owned media company. Several Private Equity firms now own a substantial percentage of the merged companies. The DWAC SPAC.

Isn't there already enough social media platforms?

Not when the existing ones owned by the tech giants censor the “free speech” of one side while hiding behind section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. They can’t have it both ways (be shielded from litigation while controlling the content) and this entity will force them to chose if they are publishers or open platforms.

Market Caps:

$964 billion-Facebook
$119 billion-Snap
$52 billion-Twitter
$40 billion-Pinterest
$1.64 billion-Digital World Acquisition Corporation

I only use two social media platforms on the regular, and that is VolNation and Reddit. If Donald wants his own social media space, I couldn't care less. Whatever, have at it.

There are other platforms out there people can use. Unfortunately most people just cannot leave Facebook.

I have never considered Volnation a social media platform. I heard Reddit has also been bad with the censorship.

Facebook is kind of different at this stage of their evolution. They control huge quantities of advertising dollars. They’ve built massive profiles of their users and are able to charge a huge premium with how highly targeted their advertisements are distributed.

DWAC has a sweet spot to develop. Parler went after the same thing but was attacked by Big Tech. Big Tech also shut down the distribution of Trump’s speech. The others have pissed off half the country with their attempts to control thought and the messsges.

Reddit is under the thumb of the Newhouse family and China.

Instagram is owned by Facebook.

Microsoft owns LinkedIn.

IAC owns websites and spun out Match Group (match dot com, tinder, etc).

Internet Brands owns websites. IG is owned by KKR.

VolNation is definitely social media in my mind; anyone can join and talk about a host of things, from our Vols to this Brandon meme floating around. I've used Reddit extensively for years. It used to be the wild west. In the last few years they have cut down on certain things. But the way Reddit is structructed they can't really censor everything; when one subreddit is banned, another pops up to replace it.

No different than Reddit really. Anonymous, forums (subreddits) dedicated to specific things. Mods policing the joint. Same really.

Yes. I think that Reddit is more like information sharing for specific interest groups rather than “social media”. Social Media probably encompasses everything and TrumpTalk is going to attempt penetrating the Facebook and Twitter space of the social media universe.

One of DWAC’s biggest challenges will be attracting advertisers that won’t be targeted by woke boycotting initiatives. DWAC will probably be most successful by drawing the Trump voters into their platform minus the look of a pure Trump venture. It will be interesting to see if it evolves into a highly bankable business or an entity that primarily strokes Donald’s ego. He’ll make a lot more money off of it if he can put that ego in check and come off more as a user instead of the face of the enterprise. It may not be an accident that Digital World Acquisition Group and Truth Social don’t currently incorporate the name “Trump”.

If Trump pushes it with his followers, they will come. Advertisers will as well. I have a feeling Trump will make it about Trump, so it will fail in the long term.

The business model needs his followers to jump start the base of active users. But if it is all about him it will struggle. As I said, the woke Leftists and Liberals will go after the advertisers if it is simply TrumpTalk. Ultimately the users need to be eyeballs on the advertisements. Since Private Equity is involved I am assuming that building value for the investors is the goal rather than providing a soap box for the Trumps to be bloviating off of.

Most companies will avoid this like the plague because of the incredibly toxic brand. But I imagine there are enough floating around (like my pillow dude) to make it work, at least for a bit.

Like I said, “Trump” isn’t part of the brand name. Only his voters are coveted as a user base if it is truly a for-profit venture. I can’t imagine the PE firms being involved though if it is planned to primarily be a right wing forum. The business has a yuge potential if it is focusing on including all political opinions. Twitter and Facebook made serious blunders by permitting bogus fact checking and silencing Donald while allowing radical Islamic leaders to continue posting their hate.
