Ready for your vaccine? Well, Papa Trump will make sure that you can get one prior to the election.

What's that? Phase 3 trials won't be done by then for any of the vaccines currently under study?

No problem. Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) will fix that.

But wait... what about the scientific process. I thought the Food and Drug Administration is in charge of deciding what's safe and effective when it comes to potential drugs and vaccines?

Wrong.

Donald J. Trump will steamroll the FDA into submission. They will be forced to agree to an EUA if the in-progress studies show positive results.

What? No that's not possible. The FDA isn't subject to political pressure. It's a scientific agency... they base their decisions on science!

Wrong again.

In fact, the FDA has *already* been bullied by Trump politically three times with COVID-19:

(1) March 30, 2020. FDA issued an EUA for hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment;

How'd that work out?

(2) June 15, 2020. FDA revokes EUA for hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment;

(3) August 23, 2020. FDA issues an EUA for convalescent plasma as a COVID-19 treatment;

Sunday, President Donald Trump announced that the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization for blood plasma. The president, the Health and Human Services secretary and the head of the FDA said the treatment reduced deaths in COVID-19 patients by 35%.

It did not, and scientists questioned the FDA’s claims about the data.

“You saw FDA be bullied by the president of the United States into approving something that they didn’t want to approve earlier, because he wanted them to do that,” said Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, in an online interview Monday with the editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Trump said he expects a vaccine "very soon." He has floated the possibility that a supposed "deep state" conspiracy at the FDA might delay it until after the presidential election Nov. 3.

Offit said Trump is “trying to now bully FDA into approving, possibly through an Emergency Use Authorization, a vaccine or vaccines before they’ve been adequately tested. That is a major mistake."

"Vaccines can be given to millions of people, hundreds of millions of people around the world, even billions," said Eric Topol, a professor of molecular medicine at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. "How are we going to trust this man and our FDA in the months ahead regarding a vaccine Emergency Use Authorization? We’re in the middle of a pandemic; the stakes are really high. They couldn’t be higher."

Despite Trump's repeated statements that a vaccine is coming soon, there simply hasn't been time for that data to become available.

"There is no way there will be any meaningful data this year, period," Topol said. Anything that comes that quickly is "a hoax."

When Trump forces the FDA to issue an EUA for a vaccine in late October - right before the election - he will effectively screw *all* of us. Who's actually going to voluntarily take some half-ass baked vaccine that's been ramrodded politically for the sole purpose of helping Donald's re-election prospects?

Not me.

You wrote all that to say you won’t take a new vaccine ? Ok Lol

Wait, isn't that what the left wants? Didn't they say we can't open the country up until their is a vaccine?

Trump, we have a vaccine! The left we don't want a vaccine.

People want a safe and effective vaccine, left or right - we should all want that. Shoehorning the label of "vaccine" onto a glass vial in order to thump his chest over would be just another example of Trump hoping glitter without substance fooled his fans, again.

Not unless I chose to do business with them . That’s my choice .

Sure it is, but folks are lazy and less obstinate than you think when the result is having to put out effort. You'll put the mask on to get your gallon of mayo from Costco, you may not like it - but you'll do it.

I agree unless you don’t want to stand in a corral with a mask on then you just drop by food lion , get it and go . There’s a lot of stores around here that have signs up but don’t enforce it .

Nope, not one business has pushed back when I say I'm not going to wear one.

I find that hard to believe, I'm in the reddest part of Florida and saw a guy get chewed up and spit out for bellying up to the salad bar at Jason's Deli today at lunch with his mask around his chin. JD manager wasn't having it.

Irrespective of the debatable efficacy of wearing a mask in close proximity of others, it must be very satisfying to flaunt your disregard for others well being.

Yes you do, you all do. If a establishment tells you you must comply, you do it. Don't front.

I am a member of both golds and planet.

Planet was about to force mask at all times, not just when entering.

When I got the email I called and said if this change went through I was cancelling which I would have.

They decided against it.

See, we conservatives dont bitch cry or moan or burn stuff to theground.

We quietly move our business elsewhere and move on with our lives.

See the difference?

Was in Jax 3 weeks ago. There are some zealots in that town. I was fussed at more there than TN, GA, and NC combined. They reminded me of powerless people who now have a small sliver of power and are excited to wield it.
