Trump's false claims about disaster response are beyond the pale

National Guard troops had come across two trucks of "armed militia saying they were out hunting FEMA," the email said. "The IMTs [incident management teams] have been notified and are coordinating the evacuation of all assigned personnel in that county."

At some point the adults have to start speaking up

And just like that a narrative was born. Well golly gee guys, FEMA would be out there helping everyone out, but we got these local rednecks out hunting them so that will explain FEMA's terrible response and inaction. lmao

My guess is both.
Rutherford County really made an ass of themselves with the whole Michighan State Task Force thing, and blocking supplies, and helicopters etc. I am sure they want to save face. As much as I dislike this administration, it would not surprise me that they're now trying to blame their own mishandling as the federal government. Multiple layers failed here at federal, state, and local level.

We were donating to this group running trucks to Asheville and East Tennessee and they literally cited that we should avoid FEMA and not give stuff to them as they are holding up relief to people that need it.

Beauracracy at its finest.

FEMA is a disaster no matter who is in the office. Federal government is failing in many stages.

Ok, but there is a certain irony that the cultists are threatening FEMA workers who are trying to help, albeit inefficiently, based on false reports that the FEMA workers are politicizing aid. Only to then cause less aid to actually arrive.

Do you think they may have said that to get more donations for themselves?

They are not helping, in fact they are holding up donations.

So you don't believe Fema is confiscating donations but you believe the Dukes of Hazard is riding around in trucks hunting Fema? 😂

If it is true that those in Western NC are “hunting FEMA”, I am pretty sure we’d have had bodies in bags already. Those mountain folk haven’t made it for centuries by being bad shots.

I suspect this is more hyperbole, just on the other side.

It is not any more productive than the falsehood that FEMA is “doing nothing” in the mountains.
In actuality, it seems like an attempt to excuse an inadequate response. (FWIW, I don’t think any entity could have been “ready” to respond to this kind of catastrophe.)

Made up?

William Jacob Parsons, 44, was arrested and charged with Going Armed to the Terror of the Public, a misdemeanor, Capt. Jamie Keever said in a news release issued Monday. “Parsons was armed with a handgun and a rifle,” Keever said.

The sheriff’s office began investigating Saturday after receiving a call that a man “made the comment about possibly harming FEMA employees working after the disaster of Hurricane Helene in the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area.”

Parsons was arrested in his car outside a grocery store that is functioning as a storm relief site, Keever said.
