TrumPutinGate

Ms. Sally Yates is about to elucidate things for us.

Given how proactive Donny's little Twitter fingers have been this morning, you can tell it isn't going to be good.

I think I'm going to get a poster of her to put on my wall.

Anti-treason dream girl.

So, was Flynn fired for lying to Mike Pence... or was he fired because he couldn't obtain new security clearance? Any way you want to look at it, Trump must know that he won't be able to get away with blaming Obama for the Flynn hire as National Security Adviser. That just won't fly.

I bet if you close your eyes, squinch up your face, rub both your ears, tap you magical orange slippers together three times, and say that Volprof is crazy enough you'll make all of this go away.

Pretty sure your constipation routine won't work for this.

Neither.

He was fired because the fact he was an unregistered agent of Turkey and Russia became public.

Pence knew about it as well. That's more Donny Team lies.

He was fired because the warning Obama had given Trump about Flynn was proving true, and the Trump people want to distance his administration from Flynn as much as possible.

Flynn is coming across as quite the idiot here... if you believe the testimony of Yates. He spoke to the FBI without an attorney present and gave them false information? Wow.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but damn it looks bad for Trump that Sally Yates was fired before Michael Flynn was... especially when you take a good look at the timeline. Reasonable people will speculate as to the real reason she was fired as acting AG.

She was fired for instructing the DOJ to ignore his executive order. Seems like reasonable grounds for termination.

I can predict Krauthammer tonight on Fox when asked about this by Baier. "Well, we didn't really learn anything new today." Followed by 3 or 4 minutes of being dismissive of her.

The other part of this is the fact that Obama never threw Trump under the bus by going public or making some silly "tweet" stating that he had warned Trump. Trump has constantly maligned Obama since taking office and Obama has not responded. Can you imagine if these roles were reversed. That tells you a lot about what you need to know regarding the differences between these two and the character of each.

President Obama's Long History of Insulting Donald Trump

Fox News and Trump apologists in general (including some here) will try to portray Yates and Clapper as democratic partisans but that is not how they have come across in their testimony today at all. They have both declined opportunities to weigh in with opinions.

Did we learn anything new?

Yes. We learned that she expressly told them several weeks before anything was done about this that Flynn was, at a minimum, an easy target for Russian blackmail.

If you think that happened in a vacuum (and note, she cannot answer the collusion question) then you are in fantasy land.

I'm starting to think that VP is pretty close to right on this. I think we are going to find, at the end of the day, that Trump personally played a role in these Russian shannanigans, or was aware of it and allowed it to occur, because it benefited him.

And as the soldiers have been caught up in their own indiscretions, Trump has picked them off, one by one. To cover his own tracks.

But it may simply be too late for that, now.
