Bullspit.
Watergate took over a year to unfold. And, just like Trump now, Nixon tried to blame the press and painted himself as the victim.
We'll see how this all ends up. But despite Trump's repeated efforts to head off the investigations, they are moving forward and the press will not just sit back and do nothing because it annoys Trump.
Maybe Trump will be vindicated. I doubt it. I suspect you doubt he will, too.
You are correct Watergate took a year to unfold. The biggest difference?
Reporters back then actually took the time to investigate and properly vet the information they received. These days? Everyone wants a scoop and will toss out whatever "information" they get regardless of how bad it is or not even properly fact checking it hoping to beat the competition.
Additionally, Watergate started off as a low level situation that didn't involve Nixon. It took them a while to get around to his involvement. Now? The first thing the media does has been go directly to Trump.
Investigative journalism at the national level is dead. Even Bob Woodward says the media needs to calm the eff down in regards to Trump. And Carl Bernstein says the media needs to "find the best obtainable version of the truth." And:
"We are struggling to cover factually, contextually, with nuance, who this president is, who this individual is, who his family is, who his business relationships are with, what his policies are, and how those working with him are doing," he said.
And it's not like they are small fish or anything. When the two main reporters from Watergate are giving advice to the media to hold up and get their facts straight, that's telling.
Trump may or may not be vindicated. Don't know at this time. What I do know is I can't trust any of the media outlets to provide the truth without either withholding facts or putting their spin on it.
