Manhattan prosecutor joins special counsel's Russia probe

A federal prosecutor in Manhattan is joining special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Andrew Goldstein is departing as chief of the public corruption unit in Manhattan after serving in the role for roughly a year, The New York Times reported Friday.

The office is known for its work pursuing public corruption and white-collar crime cases.

Yes, there is now evidence that an opposition research loon who hated the Clintons was trying to get emails from the Russians for Flynn. If it turns out Trump knew about that, he'll be run out on rails.

The guy's name is/was Peter Smith and he died 10 days after apparently doing an interview with a reporter named Shane Harris of the Wall Street Journal. Sure, he was 81 years old but can you imagine what the conservative conspiracy loving types would do with this if it involved an investigation into a Democratic Party President?

Probably depends on where this guy was in the campaign. Was he an advisor or was there 15 levels of management above him?

Or is he just some independent "loon" someone heard about?

He wasn't part of the inner circle, I don't think. But he claimed to be connected to Flynn. Maybe he was lying or bragging. Or maybe he was assisting Flynn as go between.

You have to at some point wonder why was everyone, including people in the new administration, freaked out by having Flynn even in the building.

We will know in time. I just wonder if Flynn flips on Trump. He may already have done so. And Trump's insane media bashing frenzy may be because he knows what's coming and he's trying to set up an us versus then fight in advance, to try to hang on when it all comes out.
