TrumPutinGate

So, now we know why Donald Trump floated the utterly ridiculous suggestion, completely out of the wild blue yonder at a cabinet meeting yesterday, that the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 because terrorists were infiltrating Russia through it... Vladimir Putin's party has recently sponsored a resolution which they say "justifies" the invasion of Afghanistan to fight terrorism. No terrorist attack within the substantial borders of the countries forming the former Soviet Union (including Russia) was cited in this resolution. Former Soviet premier, Mikhail Gorbachev, has talked at length about what a disastrous mistake this invasion was... and never mentioned terrorism as a root cause.

This is yet another example of Trump bowing to the wishes of Putin and making an absurd claim that Russia was justified in invading Afghanistan, which he could only have heard from the Russian President. Yes, Trump is Putin's puppet. It becomes more and more clear all the time.

Damn BB, Trump lives in your head rent free 24-7-365.

So.....

What should he do? Go to war with Russia?

Trump should not be reciting Vladimir Putin's talking points in a cabinet meeting. You are being willfully blind at this point... The Soviets invaded Afghanistan to fight terrorism, eh? Now, where do you suppose Trump heard such a ridiculous claim? Putin told him to say it on television... and he said it.

Have you got a link to any of this? Specifically Putin telling Trump to say it

Nobody here will ever explain why an American President was defending the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in a cabinet meeting yesterday. That was just plain weird and out of the blue. That goes against everything we know to be factual... and this Russian resolution could not be just a coincidence.

I am adding 1 plus 1 to reach the conclusion that Putin asked him to say it. But ask yourself this: where else would Trump have gotten such a stupid idea? Not from anyone in his administration or state department.

So Russia is not sending forces to Afghanistan to combat terrorism?

You are way off and completely foolish. I tell you what, you explain Q and will will explain what court filings under seal means.
This stuff is baby **** to what the Clinton foundation has done.... too bad we'll never know the depth

The arrogance of the left / MSM is truly amazing.

How someone would think that anyone outside the "need-to-know" of the Trump administration could begin to honestly explain the bolded above is beyond comprehension.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe you need to sit back and wait on history to unfold instead of dissecting the opinions of talking heads?

The big difference is I know I don't know everything. I'm ok to wait and see. The media has predicted the end is near since 1/20/2017. I trust based on everything I've seen in the first 2 years of his administration that Trump will do his best to do the right thing for the American people.

I pray for him daily.

Cookoo..
If ur absurd rationalization were accurate what is the payback? ..a new tower in Moscow in an irrelevant economic state?
You ever think that both Putin and trump are just pragmatic nationalists.
Even your fave FDR was pragmatic.

The Soviet–Afghan War lasted over nine years, from December 1979 to February 1989. Insurgent groups known collectively as the mujahideen, as well as smaller Maoist groups, fought a guerrilla war against the Soviet Army and the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan government, mostly in the rural countryside

Sounds like terrorism to me
Not that there weren't terrorists in Afghanistan at the time... a key figure in fighting off the Soviet invasion was none other than Osama bin Laden. The motive behind the Soviet invasion had absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. The Soviets wanted a communist government to succeed against an insurgency they were facing. This was all about communist control.

For what it's worth, former U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, who has written a pretty good book on the fall of the Soviet Union, has just agreed on Twitter with my "absurd rationalization".

Good. You can take that to the bank...….along with $2 tomorrow and get a newspaper.

Yeah. It makes such good sense for an American President to be defending one of the Soviet Union's most dubious actions with complete nonsense. If Trump said the Soviets were justified in shooting down the Korean airliner in 1983, you would reach for a rationale to agree.
