I know that Zas just posted about it, but I want to know what you all think. Did he get a better offer financially? Or was he just really head over heels with the opportunity to work with the gem known as Randy Sanders? OR, could it have been that he was the only coach held over to help keep the recruiting class intact? That seems logical at this point. He was held over, but knowing he probably wouldn't stay here.. he just loves this university and wanted to help secure a good class for us.

I love CJG as much as the rest of you all do, and wanted him to stay of course. He and CRG's coaching paths look very similar, but Graham gets more credit because he had Marcus Lattimore. Latt was going to be special regardless. Obviously CJG helped a lot, but if CRG had the chance to work with that caliber of a back I'm sure we'd be saying the same stuff about him.

What do you all think?

I'd say he left for more money, and Florida State recruiting.

but he swung and missed on a ton of RBs,,,,Lattimore was a stud before jay coached him,,,,hope he has fun tugging randys jock,,,,I like Gill better as a recruiter...Hurd that right!!

I say like other coaches he moved to improve his chances to move up as a coach. CBJ has a lot of people around him who have been there for a long time, that leaves CJG pretty low on the pecking order if a step up shows itself. I also wonder if the amount of work time CBJ requires of his coaches might have played a part.

No ill will here. Regardless of the reason, it was worth it to him to leave, so he did. Best of luck to him. Coaching at your alma mater is a bonus, but should never be the determining factor for accepting a job or staying/leaving one.

Jay left because of the fact he felt more like a hold over, than a true member of the staff. Just look at the situation with most all the coaches having prior history with Jones at other stops, and you'll see why he felt like that. He didn't leave because he didn't want to be here, he left because he wanted some stability and people he knew to coach with. He was close with Randy Sanders, when he was here, and that's why he left. No real spin to be made about it, and no conspiracy theories about him not loving UT as to why he left.

God bless Jay. Loved him as a player. Really liked him as a coach. Brought in some non-rb stud recruits. Hurd said he had no relationship with Dooleys staff.... that's both Dooley and Jay- not good. Signed Our best 2 rb recruits in years pretty much as soon as JG left. Coincidence? Don't know, suspect not. Wish him well.

Butch Jones Not to Blame for Jay Graham Leaving Tennessee Volunteers | Bleacher Report

Explains the money situation. I think he wanted to go to a more established program. He wanted to leave, FSU wanted him....nuff said.

What in the hell is the matter with you, there is no more of an established program than the University of Tennessee. Sneaker U doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as U. T. The point isn't even arguable. :nono: :rtfm:
