Truth - Lady Vols Looked Pathetic Tonight

Actually spoken by someone who has coached high school basketball, volleyball, and track and field. Also spoken by someone who realizes that they does not know everything there is to know about basketball. However, I do know that in any sport you try to exploit your opponents weaknesses. And like it or not, the Lady Vols have a glaring weakness in the coaching department. Look at any game they have played under CHW where they were forced into a halfcourt game where they couldn't just out-talent and win on superior athleticism alone. The result is almost always the same. A good coach with decent talent will be able to strategize and beat a bad coach with superior talent on many occasions. Not always, but it does happen. You are right in the fact that he wanted to slow the game down, but I think he knew if they could keep it close then they had a chance to win because he could outcoach Holly on any given day.

You are right on your last comment however. If Coach Foster had been coaching the Lady Vols this thread would never exist because UT would have probably won by 20 points. 30 if Holly had coached UTC.

I have coached high school basketball the last 16 years, but obviously I need to upgrade my language/arts skills. I misread your original comment. We are on the same side if the fence here in respect to Holly coaching prowess. UTC IS ALSO playing s number of young players ..... He is doing a great job.

I was 7 rows from the court and it was ugly. Out hustled, outplayed, and just flat out embarrassing.

Lol well I was going to say you were making my arguments for me in your post but I didn't want to be mean 😄. But glad we are on the same page.

Wow! Have anyone read the article on ESPN? No one is scared of Tennessee anymore and the respect is gone! The young lady stated, Coach told us Tennessee is an average team and we can beat them! That hurts! I know some are saying relax, but this can be a make or break season for Tennessee concerning the future.

Relax are we for real. That is the issue, we have a coach so relaxed that she is in a combo. Holly supporters wake up no one respect the ladies any more. Quit dreaming and face reality. Quit hoping when the train is falling off the track. If this ship is to be righted, Holly has to start now. The game at Texas will be a telling story. Quit giving Holly excuses this is her 3rd year at the helm it is now or never.

Coaches earn their money by developing players and by assessing their personnel--who should play, at what position, for how many minutes. Warlick and her staff have to figure out what the best starting five is, who are the first three players off the bench--and then work to build chemistry and cohesion.

My bet is that Holly would start:

Massengale at Pg (1)--veteran point guard, good handle, best perimeter shooter we have, mediocre defender
Carter at 2 guard: excellent athlete, best perimeter defender, bit of an inconsistent shot
Jones at 3: excellent athlete, decent shot, with Carter one of the two best man defenders on the team. Too many turnovers last year but had a good game last night and said to be improved.
Graves at 4: good rebounder, good athlete; not sure of her 1v1 defensive skills--decent, maybe; not good with the ball--weak to mediocre passer and few offensive skills; bit of a liability on offense
Harrison at 5: more of a power forward than a center, but she plays center. Nice all around game, good intensity, but doesn't match up well with big, physical centers.

I'm sure we'll see Reynolds and Middleton spell the starting guards, Moore sub in for Harrison, and Nared play in the 3/4 spot.

I would reduce Burdick's minutes. Good intensity; has a pretty good spot-up shot--but doesn't seem to have a natural position at which she can excel. I'm not sure I'd be playing her much.

Massengale has to play well and play tough for this team to be good. She was BAD last night. In 31 minutes, she was 4-13 from the floor with 2 assists (1 turnover). That's a terrible performance from your senior point guard. We will not beat anybody good with that kind of play from her. You are a PG: if your shot is not falling, then create good shots for the other players.

Warlick has got to do a better job of handling players. Why did Moore play only 11 minutes last night? Warlick made a comment after the game about Moore losing her head early in the game after missing a layup and then playing badly. Fine, take her out for a spell--but you don't leave the team's best player in the first four games on the bench for the rest of the game! She didn't play well, or much; Graves wasn't good--5 turnovers; Massengale was horrid; and not enough good passing/assists--only 9 for the game. That, and letting another player go off on us, adds up to loss.

armchair: Well put on point that`s what i have said a long time ago. Burdick and Grave it`s like Holly rewards them bad play.

Can someone tell me how many minutes Nia played in each half? Can find box scores, but not a breakout by half. Thanks in advance.

I watched the game and am certain it was about equal per half. She played about five minutes got two quick fouls and went to the bench. Second half I think she got in for about two three minutes stretches. I know we never saw her again around the ten minute mark of the second half.

Thanks, my iPad kept freezing up and I was lucky to occasionally see the score. Certainly could not tell what was going on. Just did not understand why Nia played so little or when she did get in the game. 11 minutes seemed very few when we have no other post other than an undersized Bashara (with Izzy on the bench). Also no bigs coming in next year and no Izzy either...what do we do then? Count on DD to save us? I'm not bashing Holly, just concerned and confused right now.

Your talking about these two players getting 57 minutes and producing together 11 points and 9 rebounds. They also had 7 turnovers together. That tells it all you can't have that kind of production out of two players. They should not be playing if that is the best they can do.

Well, she's not Pat, and that's for damn sho. She has the some work to do, and she has to be careful she't don't lose this team, cos If I didn't believe in you or your decision as a player, I did my own thang. Once again, players are doing there own thang.

Don't take any non-conference game as easy outside of those the Lady Vols play most of the time-Texas, Stanford, Notre Dame, North Carolina.

This is two really bad games in a row. I would let Jones, Burdock and Reynolds sit a lot more.

Reynolds had one of her better games. Jasmine did some nice things, but she's playing out of position.

Burdick should have been sitting a lot more for 2 years now, but it seems that she has incriminating photos of Holly or something. No other explanation I can think of...

I agree, Middleton and Dunbar should be getting those minutes. Reynolds is better when attacking the basket and so is carter. Reynold played better in the second half.

"This team is terrible, and I take responsibility for that" Holly said this during her post game interview.
