Tuesday Practice Notes

dobbs biggest problem is holding on to the ball too long and getting sacked. I believe he is overthinking his options and not paying attention to his internal clock. He also doesn't have the strength/accuracy of fergy. His int to td ratio is horrible too. Dobbs probably is the best runner of the four, although peterman can run too.

Dobbs would still be good to use in primary run situations and be an effective passer. but fergy is the best true passer on the team.

worley passes decently after the first quarter. Such a slow rattled starter though.

based on?

Anyone but Worley or Peterman! Dobbs or Fergs either one I'll ride with, would kinda like to see Dobbs improvement since he gives us the best read option threat!

and fergy is NOT better than dobbs

Ferguson has been ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart every day they have been on campus, except when Ferguson was hurt.

Dobbs is not in the QB race right now. It is, without question, a 2-man battle between Worley and Ferguson.

Then why have Peterman and Dobbs stop getting reps withthe first team? It's pretty clear that Worley and Ferguson have risen to the top while Dobbs and Peterman have stopped getting reps with the first team. They only difference in the QB completion from last fall camp is that Ferguson and Dobbs have both passed Peterman on the depth chart.

You have to remember the media reports what they want to.

i think he knows what he has in both peterman and dobbs. worley and fergy are the wildcards.

worley-to see if he's gotten any better
fergy- to see what he is

remember, they still have summer and fall practice to pick a guy and the last to actually play in games is dobbs. and dobbs looked very good in games throwing and running, despite the lack of an SEC-type wr core.

This! x2

judging by the coaches comments and not the media's perception and them tying themselves into what the readers want to read/ hear.......this is far from true

Took the words right out of my mouth!

You won't get it. :)

People are riding with what Jones said after Worley went down & that Dobbs didn't travel to the UF Game.

Jones recently stated that reps won't be split anymore. If Fergy is still with the 2nd team after Thursday it's a safe bet he's our 2nd string QB. However, things can change between now and Aug 31st

Tennis ball, Great method to catch the ball. May I suggest another technique for the defensive backs. Have them take the football and toss it straight up in the air as high as they can, look at the ground quick and then catch the ball. You are so disoriented that it is amazing how it trains your feet, neck and eyes. Maybe somehow Butch reads this and not one of our competitors. Maybe someone knows him and can suggest it. I guess I will never know if he try's this technique. Each DB can practice on their own all summer.

i disagree, but we all have our opinions. no one is for certain. i just think butch goes away from the traditional way of doing things

It's not my opinion per se. It's what's actually happening in practice. All I'm doing is regurgitating information I've read and heard from numerous sources who are close to the program or cover the program. If Dobbs was taking the reps with the 1s like Ferguson and Worley have been that's what I'd have been posting/copy&pasting. It can certainly change, that's why I've always included "as of now" or "right now".

Got no dog in the hunt. I'll take any of the 3.....can't include Peterman after the Florida disaster....just not emotionally ready, can't do it.

I mentioned it before but I'd throw Peterman in for a few downs during a game we're winning just to give him a chance to redeem himself publicly.

again, the media is gonna report what the majority wants to hear. when the coach comes thru and clearly says otherwise, how do you ignore that? i'll tell you how. because it doesn't fit what you want to believe. if the coach didn't say it, i'm not listening to it. even espn lies for ratings and such. you do realize that every "so-called" source wants and will do anything to be "that source", right? if it gets the most attention, to them, who cares if it's lies!

Damn, now that's a cynical post right there.

Do you consider former Vols Ainge, Swain and Treece who regularly attend practices and have attended both scrimmages "the media"? Do they pow wow with Butch to see what he wants them to say? Are they not giving honest opinions based on what they've seen or are they instead pawns for CBJ?

And how does it get these guys anymore attention by saying that Worley and Ferguson are getting more snaps with the 1s than if they said it was Dobbs and Peterman? How and why?

Btw, here's something you might listen to.... The coach said it yesterday after Thursdays practice- was tweeted out by Tennessee Football...

@Vol_Football: JONES (on QBs):We are balancing repetitions. Justin & Riley have taken more reps and they will continue to. Nate & Josh continue to progress

Is this tweet quoting The Coach a lie?

It's a two-man race at this juncture whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

Oh, you mean these tweets, which I posted yesterday morning in the QB Competition thread?.....

. @UTCoachJones i was really disappointed n QB group today. But i thought @tha_truth_104 had the best leadership today. No spring depth chrt

Danny Parker: @UTCoachJones says redshirt freshman Riley Ferguson shown more leadership than other QBs. No post-spring depth chart coming.

JONES: We are waiting for someone to take grab and say 'I am the quarterback of Tennessee.' You have to bring it every single day.

Yeah, I'm really trying to be disingenuous here..... by posting tweets that were in reference to Thursday's practice, about the QBs,in the "QB Competition" thread and not in the "Tuesday Practice Notes" thread. Yeah, I'm busted, you got me.

So I acknowledged that none of them had a good day IN THIS THREAD as well. When are you going to acknowledge that Butch said "Justin & Riley have taken more reps and they will continue to"? (And by "taking more reps", he means with the first team btw). Not holding my breath.

well KBVol, it sure didn't look like a 2 man race today....unless it was between Worley and Dobbs huh?
