I don’t think that she ever made a musical step wrong. Not in my book, anyway. She has (had) the pipes.

I saw her live in Knoxville with Sam and Dave as the warmups. One of the best concerts ever.

So many great songs; hard to pick, but maybe (with that backup band she helped get going, eventually called The Eagles):

Sam & Dave! Stax.

I saw her and Aaron Neville in concert together, it was great.

I had a big crush on her in the 70s.

Have you been to the Stax Records Museum? It’s worth a trip to Memphis, even to do nothing else at all. Well, maybe see the Peabody ducks. But just an amazing and educational/ enlightening exhibit, for all y’all who’ve never been to Memphis.

Just that room with Mavis Staples and the Staple Singers, belting out “Respect Yourself.” Holy cow.

The home of Southern Soul, y’all!
