Have you been to the Stax Records Museum? It’s worth a trip to Memphis, even to do nothing else at all. Well, maybe see the Peabody ducks. But just an amazing and educational/ enlightening exhibit, for all y’all who’ve never been to Memphis.

Just that room with Mavis Staples and the Staple Singers, belting out “Respect Yourself.” Holy cow.

The home of Southern Soul, y’all!

I still love that Bob Dylan wanted to marry Mavis, and she turned him down.

I have been to the museum. It is also worth it to see Isaac’s caddy.

My Aunt and Uncle were friends with Duck Dunn, so I have always been partial to Booker T. & the M.G.’s. Met Booker T several years ago when he performed at Yoshi’s in Oakland.

I have seen Mavis live twice. There used to be a blues fest in the Marina/Russian Hill area, I think it was at Marina Green. My ex’s PR firm worked on it so I got hooked up. I had backstage passes, which really wasn’t anything special at this spot, but I was on the side stage when she performed. Also for North Mississippi Allstars.

The other time, she was opening for Dylan at the Greek in Berkeley. She told the story about turning him down.

That movie is stupid, but stupid funny. Didn't like all the language, but the story and action was funny.

My mom still remembers (dementia is funny this way) that “the family plot” is just around the bend from Isaac Hayes’s gravesite, along with his house being just a few blocks away from hers. Borrowed greatness, I guess, lol!

Speaking of song lyrics...

Don't need no Tesla to impress her
My girl is happy rolling on a Vespa

When I moved to Miami I got rid of all my boots on tape save a few favorites.
I remember being in some of the first Dead tape trading groups on AOL. Com. It was basically the good faith system. If you didn't trade what you promised you got blacklisted
