tweets from Diamond's father

U spoiled her so much, didn't realize that work she put in high school is nuttin, cos that the norm at most elite programs. And your daughter still plays when she wants to and when things don't go her way she has a tendency to bring the morale of the team down, and at clutch time best player time, your daughter hasn't been clutch at all, non existence.

Put her on the floor, oops turnover. My bad, next possession oops turnover my bad, on the possession beat on defense for a layup, oooops dug down off a three point shooter, bang 3 points. Your daughter who is so great.

What have you done for mi lately? Diamond hasn't done a damn thang, she is not even playing all SEC basketball. She's not even the best player in the SEC. wuteva. She's not even playing the best ball on her team.

Holly is stanking it up too, but ur a coach, you should know betta, now u've just given ur underperforming daughter more ammo.

Diamond scored 21 points against SC.

Diamond scored 21 points against SC.

And most of those points was when the game was for the most part decided.

Did we win? Did she look like the best player on the court.

Sorry, Aja Wilson was the best player on the court.

Is she making anyone else better? Hopefully she is finding out this year, what it takes to be a leader.

She is still young. She has time. Playing hurt is not her forte. Shine brite like a Diamond! I don't see a will to win, that I see from players like Kelsey, Stewart, Nina Davis, Aja Wilson, ya know All Americans...

She's the best players on the Lady Vols, whooopee. We need her to be one of the best player in the nation. I mean like first team All American, if...

Diamond is the best player on the floor for Tennessee no matter what game is being played. The dad was completely correct in his comments. One of the major reasons for the poor scoring and the losses is the absolutely insane combinations that Holly plays when the game is still on the line. She plays combinations that has been proven to have no scoring capability....she substitutes for someone who is hot and has hit three or four shots in a row. What happens then is the team loses momentum and goes into a spiral downward having a completely horrible stretch losing a big lead or digging themselves a hole that they can not possibly dig out of just like the South Carolina game and every other loss this season.

We need her to be one of the best players not just for Tenn but for women's basketball, one of the top players in the country. If you want to play for Championship. Ijs.

Ok, so u sub a player the first play, cos they didn't read the scanner report, they immediately give what you told them not to give up on their first possession on the floor or come down and throw the ball out of bounds, is your confidence up, when this has been the M.O for this player all season, and they know they made a mistake, so on the offense, they try to make it up and quick shoot the basketball, or try to take on five players by themselves, cos they want to make up for it.

Geno, you would be out. U ain't ready to play, our gurls are lazy. I don't care what you say, no way you have that much standing around in basketball, not pressing on defense, they just do what they want to in the games, no scanner report loyalty. And they think they can beat team playing 2 or 3 vs 5 or 5 individual vs 5, when other teams are better teams, prolly not as skilled of player, but they are a better team.

A team of All Americans, it shouldn't matter who's on the floor, and that how Holly is coaching, like really who has been consistent to say, I'm going to go with this five, consistently, yo yo team, mental midgets, but they can get better.

Yes, I do not like her or the team not getting the hot player the ball. This happens frequently on our team, and her sub patterns do give me pause sometimes too.

Right now you have a team that think they know more than the staff and each other, on how to win.

Diamond has potential. That potential isn't being tapped. It's frustrating to watch. Some falls onto Diamond, majority to the whole coaching staff. Your talking about a 19-20 year old expecting to have it all figured out. The girl needs guidance, and she isn't getting it at the moment.

Coach .... Player ....
Get it?

Diamond could very well be following her father's advice, instead of the advice of the coaching staff.

I'm not saying she is, but she seems to have lacked Focus for the entire season.

2/3 of DD's turnovers are not her fault at all. Sure they go on her column in the box score, but most of them are because whoever she is passing to is asleep, isn't ready, can't handle a well-thrown pass, or is as fooled by DD's skill at looking one way and passing another as the the other team. Some of her turnovers are bad passes, but fault for most of them is on the receiving end.

This quote specifically needs to be echo'd...

The turnovers might be in Diamonds box score breakdown, but a fair majority of them are players that can't catch the dang ball or read for a skilled pass.

Many of Diamond's turnovers are real head scratchers though, many unforced turnovers. Like she's just not focused or something. Something just ain't right with her. Her father's Meddling can't be helping her any.

Well I"ll take the one who at least been to, two elite 8s. With this team leading, we're barely breaking .500.

You guys don't give the players enough credit, being a former, we run the team, we are the players peers, but our coaches trust us to do what was right but for the firstyear one or two it was a battle of wills, and you are all world and you really have to be humbled, right now Deishields is being humbled, these players have to allow the coaching staff, to be their coaches, then we will see Lady Vols basketball, right now its still a battle of wills and Holly is losing, that part scares me, cos you can't scare them or hold them accountable cos everyone is playing poorly. Now she has to play people to see if anyone is engaged, locked in.

And when the players allow themselves to be coached, will we see our team playing better basketball but some "Quote" star players are stubborn, and it can take a while, especially if there are outside influences.

So, yes Holly has some growth, all I"m saying most of our players need to mature and woman up too. And neither should be fired or kicked off the team. I do see a good basketball team developing, the development is just taking longer than I expected, but I thought if we pressed, and played uptempo, we would be lights out, but the progression of our guard play has gotten worse, which really magnifies everything.

So, right now the players know more than the staff, and we're batting .500. Holly, can one you buck up, Alpha up on em. No Alphas on the staff, the only Alpha on the roster is playing poorly. So, its a grind...

Coach is not a coach, until the players allow themselves be coached!

They look like exactly the same team that lost to VT. The only difference is they were playing inferior competition.

A win is better than a loss, for sure, but it doesn't mask the fact that they are not playing good basketball. They have not improved this season. If anything, they are playing worse on the offensive side.

no no no....a good player makes her teammates look better. By this point in the season, Diamond should understand that Mercedes has soft hands, etc. And yet, she continues to fling highlight reel bullets in every direction. Time to simply park her on the bench and encourage her transfer at year's end.
maybe the problem isn't DD, because other players have the same problems with their passes. Mercedes should also know to expect the ball and not fumble it away of get shots blocked by shorter players. On another team I bet she wouldn't have the same problems. I know a lot of you would like to see her on another team not me I want her to succeed on this team!!!

Good point; that is really weird critique of Diamond that was being stated. Hey, its Diamond fault for passing to Mercedes who is supposed to be the linchpin of a post oriented offense. As silly as the sentiment is, it would apply to the other guards as well.

We lost this game last night for 2 reasons...mediocre shooting and too many TO's. Those things describe DD to a T. Having her in the game for more minutes wouldn't have changed a thing on offense.

Our defense was great. We held SC to well below their season ppg and shooting percentages. We crushed them on the boards. Having DD and her lackadaisical wave-by defense in the game for more minutes would only have impaired our play on defense.

Twice last night the camera caught her rolling her eyes at her teammates. How much damage is this doing?

Maybe Delino needs to do the math here.
ARE YOU SERIOUS??She played pretty good defense, blocks steals, and I do think she should have been back in the game as her father suggested. Everybody sitting around me was wondering why she wasn't back in the game. I didn't see the eye rolls though.

People were there to see what a very good women's bb team looks like, and I'm not referring to UT's women.
The majority of us were there to support the Lady Vols and nothing more. Whatever is going on I will always support Lady Vol Basketball

I don't think that Diamond would want to sit out another year and switching schools again would not be conducive to her education (Student-athlete remember?).

She is a talented player who is struggling on a struggling team with a struggling coach (a combination of factors that is a proverbial perfect storm).

However, her presence on the team as a building block is one reason for optimism going forward. If she transferred it would be a huge blow to the program, not only in terms of the talent loss to the roster but also in terms if what it would signal about the program. Unlike some negavols, the team--as Diamond herself stated-- is sticking together and determined to work through these struggles. Maybe we should appreciate that attitude instead of firing off poisonous drive by opinions on fan boards.
