1.) Heupel called a tight 2nd half. I know the defense was playing well but it seemed like his intentions were to sit on the lead and hope the defense keeps Bama’s offense off the field.

2.) Officiating was atrocious.

• Missed PI call on the Bama defender considering he never turned around and looked for the ball.

• Burton makes the catch and kicks our player. Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that was never called.

• Bama OL choke holds Tyler Baron and somehow, no holding penalty was called.

• Castles was held in the end zone by the Bama safety that would have resulted in a TD, no holding penalty was called.

• That fair catch might have been the worst call I’ve ever seen considering his arms aren’t even above his head, yet that means he’s giving a clear signal?

Heupel did some great things tonight but the 2nd half was probably his worst coaching job since he’s been at Tennessee.

We lost the game in the first half when we had to settle for 2 field goals. You have to put a team like Alabama away when you can and we didn’t do it. We are just hamstrung when your wr group can’t get separation and when your qb can’t hit them when they do consistently.

All of these are true. I'd add the HC made a really bad decision to go for fourth down near midfield early in the second half. Im not second guessing either i was against it before we even lined up. The biggest play last week against a&m was downing the punt inside the one.

On our last meaningful drive of the game, Squirrel was held once on 3rd down and twice on 4th, no calls. But they call Jeudy-Lally when he barely touched Burton on a bell 5 yards out of bounds to keep a Bama drive going, after we stopped them on 3rd & 7.

Different rules for each team.

Bama holding on every play offense and defense

Herring flagged for clapping

More that I can’t even even anymore

A couple of things:
I think on the throw to Castles in the end zone you're talking about, the ball was tipped at the line

There was a BS call against our D--Beasley, I think--for delay of game because he was lining up one of the other LBs by clapping his hands. I'm thinking it gave the gumps a first down. Never would have been called on Bama.

Yeah, if Jeudy-Lally held their guy, they definitely held Squirrel.

I think the tipped ball negates PI but not the hold prior to the ball being released, but I’m not 100% sure.

What was the distance? A yard? We've got a freakin' 240 pound QB. Put him under center and sneak it--find a little seam and power in there. You damn well don't put him in shotgun--4/5 yards behind the LOS. That is dumb.

I didn't see the 2nd half--but I can't imagine that Heupel would think that he could sit on a 13-point lead against bama or ANY decent/good team. That would be idiotic. We clearly had to effort to play the 2nd half just like we played the first--but of course we didn't.

The refs didn’t play right in the 2nd half. The refs didn’t line up in shotgun twice on 4th and 1 and run it up the middle twice. The refs didn’t let a receiver get wide open behind them to open the the 2nd half

Funny you say that considering that was the exact same play where Tyler Baron was choked held which should have resulted in a penalty.

Should have came back if the ref actually did its job right.

You are correct on the second part. Herring was the one who was flagged for the clapping signal, giving Bama a 1st down. On one of UT’s possessions later in the game, a Bama linebacker clapped his hands - and there was no flag.

Bama's middle linebacker clapped more than their fans.

You are correct. Holding should have called because it occurred before the ball was released / tipped. We should have gotten a new set of downs. My wife and daughter were even making the calls on Alabama holding and pulling our jerseys. It was bad. Need full time professional refs in NCAA.
I think the tipped ball negates PI but not the hold prior to the ball being released, but I’m not 100% sure.
